Characters Who Deserved Better Fates in Cyberpunk 2077

As a writer, I find myself deeply moved by the stories of these characters from Cyberpunk 2077, each one a testament to resilience, hope, and the human spirit’s unyielding will to survive against all odds.

The metropolis known as Night City is an unrelenting, ruthless environment where many individuals who venture there may find their hopes shattered and bonds severed. In the world of Cyberpunk 2077, the struggle for survival can be merciless, with even some well-crafted characters facing grim fates that may seem undeserved. Some characters are merely ground down and spat out, while others are consumed entirely.

In the harsh, unforgiving landscape of Night City as depicted in Cyberpunk 2077, some players might be intrigued to explore which seemingly superior characters meet unfortunate ends, thereby underscoring the grim and ruthless nature of this perpetually awake metropolis even more.

7 Alt Cunningham

The Best Netrunner in Night City Who Became Soulkiller’s First Victim

Characters Who Deserved Better Fates in Cyberpunk 2077

In the 2000s, Alt Cunningham was a highly skilled, if not the most skilled, Netrunner in Night City. Her life was anything but simple, and her connection with Johnny Silverhand was intricate at best. Unfortunately, this proficiency did not go unnoticed by the corrupt Arasaka Corporation, leading to their abduction of Alt for sinister purposes.

Alt was digitally transported into the Net by Arasaka, making her the first casualty of the compulsory Soulkiller project. Once a woman with immense promise, Alt now battles for existence within the Blackwall. Her original identity has largely faded away, leaving behind only the digital consciousness of a formidable cyber-entity.

6 Claire Russell

The Afterlife’s Bartender Who Lost Her Husband to Corpo Rivalries

When players encounter Claire Russell, they may appreciate her endearing personality and admire her ability to mix a potent cocktail at the Afterlife’s bar. Yet, there is a deeper tale about Claire Russell that she does not readily reveal. Those who finish her The Beast In Me missions will come to realize that Claire Russell’s life has not always been smooth sailing.

During her transition, Claire found herself smitten with a man named Dean, and their relationship flourished. Now married, they shared a daring passion for street racing. Unfortunately, this passion was cut short when a rival racer took Dean’s life. As a widow seeking justice, Claire hunts down the man responsible for her husband’s death, but will taking revenge bring her peace?

5 Elizabeth & Jefferson Peralez

A Wholesome Couple Who Campaign For Change, But Have Their Memories Altered

Characters Who Deserved Better Fates in Cyberpunk 2077

The gritty metropolis of Night City urgently requires genuine transformation. It’s a place plagued by rampant crime and systemic corruption, but the mayoral bid of Jefferson Peralez, backed by his devoted spouse Elizabeth, could just be the solution Night City needs. Yet, there are powerful figures lurking behind the scenes who seem to favor a mayor they can manipulate effortlessly.

In essence, Jefferson and Elizabeth are being coerced, without their knowledge or consent, as their minds are subtly manipulated through hidden brain modifications that impact their emotions, preferences, and recollections. It’s unjust and inhumane for the Peralez family to have their very identities usurped, stripping them of their autonomy to serve some malevolent purpose.

4 Jackie Welles

A Small-Time Merc Who Just Wanted to Hit the Major Leagues

Characters Who Deserved Better Fates in Cyberpunk 2077

Jackie Welles harbored a long-standing aspiration to escape the confines of Heywood for the big leagues, using his skills in the criminal underworld to become an iconic figure in the afterlife. His ambition was lofty, and his infectious optimism was captivating and enjoyable. However, this all changed when a heist at Arasaka took a turn for the worse.

The demise of Jackie has greatly impacted V, as they shared dreams of reaching the pinnacle of their careers in the major leagues together. Unfortunately, instead of proving his abusive father wrong, he met an untimely end, bleeding out in a car. Values instilled by Jackie’s family played a crucial role in shaping his mercenary lifestyle, and now, as he mourns alongside friends and family, it is unclear whether Arasaka will preserve him digitally for interrogation purposes – a prospect that may bring further grief to those who loved him.

3 Evelyn Parker

A Former Doll Who Dreamed of a Better Life

Characters Who Deserved Better Fates in Cyberpunk 2077

The enigmatic woman who initially hires V for a task requiring the theft of a Relic from Arasaka, Evelyn Parker, exudes an air of mystery and self-assuredness. Beneath this facade, though, lies a fearful woman desperate to flee Night City with as much money as possible, longing to escape the harsh existence she was forced into.

In Night City, Evelyn isn’t just a doll – she’s been tragically coerced into the sex trade. When the Voodoo Boys found out she couldn’t retrieve the Relic, they viciously hacked her, leaving her defenseless and exploitable by the darkest corners of Night City, including the Scavs who subjected her to their vile X-BDs. Overwhelmed by what she had experienced, Evelyn Parker chose to end her own life.

2 V

A Small-Time Merc Who Doesn’t Want to Fade Away

Originally, V and their closest companion, Jackie, had long cherished a dream of playing professionally in the major leagues and earning a place in eternity through their mercenary exploits. However, a single heist involving an artifact known as the Relic and Arasaka would dramatically alter their life’s trajectory. In this operation, V met their untimely demise at the hands of their broker. Miraculously revived by the power of the Relic, they were informed that their thoughts and memories were being rewritten to accommodate the consciousness of Johnny Silverhand. Determined to survive under these extraordinary circumstances, V will stop at nothing.

Regardless of whom character V serves, they will strive relentlessly just to stay alive. The thought of vanishing unnoticed, becoming a mere afterthought in Johnny Silverhand’s memory as he alters V’s existence, is a destiny more terrifying than death. Unfortunately, V has been exploited and mistreated by those who once promised aid, with Johnny Silverhand often accompanying the journey.

1 Song So Mi

A Young Woman Forced Into FIA Service With Corrupting AIs Eating Her Mind

Characters Who Deserved Better Fates in Cyberpunk 2077

In Phantom Liberty within Cyberpunk 2077, it could be said that Song So Mi endured the greatest hardships among the characters due to her tragic narrative. Originally a talented Netrunner, she was manipulated by the FIA who compelled her to serve as an agent for the New United States of America. Her duties led to immense mental and physical torment, culminating in the need for cybernetic modifications to survive the perils of Blackwall.

In the course of events, Song’s physical form morphed into something more mechanical than feminine, yet even then, her consciousness was gradually overtaken by the malevolent artificial intelligences from Blackwall’s Rogues with each exploration. Facing imminent demise, Song is left with two choices: either she escapes to the Moon for self-preservation, a move that would essentially betray everyone she has ever known, or she succumbs to the rogue AIs that have tormented her for years, losing her mind in the process.
