As a longtime fan of the Chibi-Robo series, I was both thrilled and saddened by the announcement of Tiny Wonder Studios’ indie spiritual successor, koROBO. The Chibi-Robo franchise holds a special place in my heart, taking me back to my childhood memories of exploring a virtual home filled with quirky characters and charming puzzles. I fondly remember playing the original game on my Nintendo GameCube, collecting Happy Points by helping out my in-game family and solving household mysteries.

At Tiny Wonder Studios, a team consisting of ex-developers from Chibi-Robo, an unconventional franchise with a devoted fanbase, has revealed their latest project: koROBO. This is an engrossing 3D platformer featuring a protagonist and theme reminiscent of Chibi-Robo. Although it’s a lesser-known Nintendo series, Chibi-Robo boasts a dedicated following. The initial release was in 2005 for the Nintendo GameCube. In this game, players assume control over a miniature robot and move through various areas of their owner’s home to gather “Happy Points.” These points could be earned by accomplishing household tasks or resolving the issues of the distressed Sanderson family.

The director of the Chibi-Robo series has shared that the future of this cherished franchise seems uncertain, as no announcements have been made about a new installment. The most recent addition to the series, Chibi-Robo Zip Lash from 2015, received mixed feedback due to its shift to a side-scrolling format and issues with control and mechanics on the 3DS. Disappointed fans and critics have voiced their concerns, leading some of the original developers to band together and form Tiny Wonder Studio, aiming to create a game in the same vein as Chibi-Robo.

At Tiny Wonder Studio, you’ll find a team of experienced industry professionals and directors who previously worked on the beloved “Chibi-Robo” series. Notable figures include Kenichi Nishi, the ex-co-founder of Skip and original “Chibi-Robo” co-director, now heading up “koROBO” as its director. During BitSummit, the initial trailer for “koROBO” was unveiled, highlighting the game’s narrative and core mechanics.

KoROBO is a Spiritual Successor to Chibi-Robo

Starting July 22, Tiny Wonder Studio is launching a Campfire and Kickstarter campaign for the game “koROBO.” Through this initiative, supporters have the opportunity to contribute financially towards the development of the game. A successful campaign could lead to the release of koROBO not only on PC but also potentially on consoles. Many enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the game, as they see it as a promising continuation of one of Nintendo’s lesser-known franchises.

At Tiny Wonder Studio, we recently shared some exciting news about our upcoming game, koROBO. In their announcement, the team expressed that this indie title is meant to be a warm and inviting experience for players. The heart of koROBO lies in connecting people and promoting positivity, with Ishi extending an invitation to fans to join them on their journey towards a brighter future. Once the Kickstarter and Campfire campaigns are launched, your support would be greatly appreciated.
