It’s been reported that another virtual reality (VR) studio, Fast Travel Games, has had to let go of 30 employees due to poor sales of their games, including Cities: VR and Into The Radius. This news was announced on Tuesday.
The announcement was made via a statement on social media.
Due to less sales than anticipated from our six game releases in 2024, along with an increasingly unpredictable future for VR Games, Fast Travel Games has made a tough choice to let go of 30 employees. Their statement explains that these changes will primarily impact the Publishing, Marketing, and Admin divisions, although the Studio as a whole will feel the effects as we streamline our operations to focus on just one development team.
They went on saying, “Making this choice is quite challenging, yet we firmly think it’s crucial for securing a steady and enduring future for our business.
Currently, we’re prioritizing assistance for our swift-moving travelers during these tough times. We appreciate the priceless work done by those departing, and we pledge to persist in developing exceptional games for our game enthusiasts.
21 game studios have either conducted layoffs or closed down in January, resulting in an estimated loss of approximately 700 jobs so far. A silver lining is that, a year ago at this time, the gaming industry had already experienced nearly 6,000 job losses.
