As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement after Firaxis Games rolled out a significant upgrade for Civilization 7! This update brings a host of useful enhancements that promise to elevate my gaming experience, making it more engaging and enjoyable.
Initially, Civilization 7 didn’t exactly set the world alight upon its release, with games like Manor Lords, Age of Empires, and even its predecessor, Civilization 6, stealing the spotlight. But with the arrival of update 1.2.0, Firaxis seems determined to make Civilization 7 a force to be reckoned with once more!
In February, Civilization 7 was released, following in the footsteps of other games in Sid Meier’s series by placing players as leaders of human civilization, responsible for fostering culture and technology advancements. The latest significant update for Civilization 7 aims to improve its “mixed” rating on Steam and save it from mediocrity. This update includes enhancements such as Quick Move feature, the addition of Bulgaria as a new civilization, leader Simón Bolívar, and further UI improvements, building upon changes made in previous updates.
In a YouTube Developer Update video, it was highlighted that one of the key points from version 1.2.0 is the “one more turn” feature, which extends players’ games while maintaining the winner’s status. The frequent catastrophic events in the upcoming version have been a matter of debate, but this update notably diminishes these setbacks by half when playing on the “light” setting. Additionally, the update presents research queuing, enabling players to decide the technology they want researched, and multiplayer teams. Earlier, the developers had mentioned that two new leaders, four new civilizations, and four new world wonders would be incorporated into the game between April and September as per the roadmap for Civilization 7, but surprisingly, this latest update offers more than expected.

- Research queuing
- Reduced natural disasters
It’s well-known that the strategy sequel has faced criticism for not living up to expectations, leading the studio to hire modders to address UI problems in what is now known as Civilization 7. Fortunately, some Twitter users reported improvements after an update, praising the developers for their efforts to enhance the game. However, many players believe that the game should not have been launched until it reached this post-update quality level following feedback suggesting it was premature to release the sequel.
It was announced in a long Nintendo Direct presentation that Civilization 7 is among the numerous games set for the Nintendo Switch 2. Other titles like the strategy game Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, Borderlands 4, NBA 2K, and more were also confirmed to be coming to this next-generation console. Furthermore, Nintendo has its own series games in the pipeline for the Switch 2, such as the console’s original title, Mario Kart World, and Kirby Air Riders. Notably, FromSoftware is also developing a new intellectual property for the system called The Duskbloods.
