In the final stage of “Civilization 7″‘s Exploration Era, players will no longer be able to use a large portion of resources as they convert into Factory Resources. Consequently, during the Modern Age, players will need to construct numerous Rail Stations to obtain these Factory Resources in their settlements.

This tutorial will demonstrate to players how they can join Rail Stations despite having a body of water in the way, such as an ocean.

Can You Build Factories in Distant Land Settlements or Islands?

To construct factories in Civ 7, a settlement needs to have a railroad connection to the capital. But here’s the catch: if players establish their settlement in remote territories without changing their capital city during an age transition or on an island, they won’t be able to connect to the capital by land. This means they can’t build roads or railroads, making it impossible for factories to exist.

In the game, players need to establish Ports, not just in their capital but also in the settlements, when they aim to link Rail Stations across water bodies. This allows them to construct factories on islands and remote territories, where resources from these factories can be placed.

How to Build a Port in Civilization 7

In Civilization 7, players need to discover the Steam Engine Technology to construct a Port. Luckily, this technology becomes available once the Modern Era begins.

After acquiring this technology, they can construct a Harbor if their settlement has at least one Coast tile next to land. This Harbor serves multiple purposes:

1. It allows connection between a settlement and the Capital that are otherwise separated by water.
2. The Harbor increases the resources available for allocation in the settlement, yielding 5 Gold, and offers an extra Gold for each Navigable River, Coastal Terrain, or Wonder located adjacent to it. Furthermore, if there’s a river, coastline, or wonder nearby, the bonus Gold will be +1 for each one.
3. Upon completion of the Harbor, players can then construct a Factory in their settlement.
