Civilization 7 VR: Exciting News with a Shocking Twist!

Summary

  • Civilization 7 VR has been announced with a spring 2025 release window.
  • The game will be exclusive to the Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S.
  • Aside from a virtual reality mode, Civilization 7 VR will also support a mixed reality perspective, with players being able to switch between the two at will.

As an avid fan, I’m thrilled to share that my beloved game, Sid Meier’s Civilization 7, is making a leap into the realm of virtual reality! This marks a groundbreaking moment for the franchise. But there’s a twist: the VR edition of Civilization 7 will be confined to a specific platform, which means not everyone can jump into this immersive experience just yet.

The seventh installment in the ongoing 4X strategy game series is scheduled for a release on both PC and consoles on February 11th. Those who bought premium versions of what’s known as “Civilization 7” have been granted early access to play it from February 5th or 6th, depending on their location.

Prior to the global launch of “Civilization 7”, publishers Firaxis and 2K have disclosed a VR adaptation of the game titled “Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 VR“. This announcement was made at the Civ World Summit on February 8. The upcoming “Civilization” title for virtual reality headsets will exclusively debut on the Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S. It remains undetermined whether this exclusivity is temporary or permanent, but it hints that Meta might have provided the funding for the project, either partially or fully.

Civilization 7 VR Will Support Both VR and MR Gameplay

In simple terms, “Civilization 7 VR” is being developed by PlaySide Studios, a studio known for their work in virtual reality, based in Australia. This game will make use of the front-facing cameras on the Meta Quest 3 headset series to provide a mixed reality experience, essentially placing a command table that can be viewed anywhere the player looks. Essentially, “Civilization 7 VR” will offer a tabletop-style take on the strategy gameplay that the series is known for. As suggested by its name, the game will include a virtual reality mode, allowing players to switch between VR and mixed reality perspectives at any time. Additionally, one of the unique features of this upcoming version is the ability to view detailed dioramas showcasing your gameplay accomplishments in The Archives. These dioramas can be examined from both a mixed reality and virtual reality perspective as well.

Civilization 7 VR Targeting Spring 2025 Release

The Meta Store now allows for pre-ordering of “Civilization 7 VR”. As of now, no specific launch date has been assigned to the project, but 2K Games hinted at a spring 2025 release. Further updates about this title are expected soon. Regardless of personal viewpoints, the objective of “Civilization 7 VR” is to offer a gameplay experience similar to its PC and console counterparts, complete with multiplayer functionality online. It’s suggested that the VR adaptation will also receive all future DLC content; however, 2K Games has not yet made an official confirmation on this matter.

Before its official release, Civilization 7 has gained substantial commercial traction due to its pre-sales alone. However, the initial feedback isn’t as favorable as that for its previous versions. Critics and players alike have expressed concerns about the game’s unpolished feel, pointing out performance issues and user interface problems as areas needing improvement. Firaxis has acknowledged these concerns and plans to address them with future updates.
