Clash Royale: Best Decks for Spooky Chess

As a seasoned Clash Royale player with years of battlefield experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the Mirror Mega Knight Phoenix deck is the spooktacular choice for the Spooky Chess event. This ain’t no ordinary Halloween party trick; it’s a game-winning strategy!

For Shocktober 2’s grand finale, everyone was eagerly anticipating some special treatment from Clash Royale. And as expected, they delivered. To conclude Season 64, the popular game Clash Royale reintroduced the beloved Chess Royale event with a Halloween theme. This themed version, known as Spooky Chess, will run from October 28 to November 4. Following this event, a challenge will commence, allowing you an opportunity to earn a fresh new banner.

In simpler terms, “Spooky Chess” is a tough and unpredictable game that could easily confuse players if they don’t have the appropriate cards and defenses. To help you feel well-equipped to face this challenge when it appears in Clash Royale, we’ve assembled some top-notch decks for your reference.

Clash Royale Spooky Chess Overview

Clash Royale: Best Decks for Spooky Chess

The Spooky Chess event replaces the standard Clash Royale arena with a chess board. However, instead of the chess pieces, you’ve got Guards as Pawns and different card towers for the rest. Each player will have two Bomber Towers in place of the Rooks, two Dark Prince Towers instead of the Knights, and two Executioner Towers instead of the Bishops. Additionally, the King Tower takes the spot of the King, and the Queen is replaced with a Mother Witch tower.

On your flank, the Card Towers are ready to assault enemy soldiers once they approach within range. When the Mother Witch Tower encounters the opponent’s troops, it will summon Cursed Hogs as expected. As for the Executioner Tower, its attacks will continue to pass through enemy units like normal. However, the Dark Prince Tower operates differently; every 17 seconds, it releases a Dark Prince who charges across the battlefield.

To emerge victorious in the match, you need to bring down either the King Tower or the Mother Witch Tower. Given the magnitude of the task, it might be more feasible to aim for victory during the tiebreaker round.

Destroying the Mother Witch Tower offers two trophies.

At the Spooky Chest event in Clash Royale, you’re not allowed to employ any Evo cards and many powerful cards capable of causing significant harm to your opponent’s towers are also off-limits. Here’s a list of cards prohibited for use in this event:

ArrowsMiner
EarthquakeClone
VoidFireball
Goblin DrillRocket
PoisonLightning

Fishboy Gobstein Giant

Card NameElixir Cost
Zap2
Rage2
Bomber2
Fisherman3
Guards3
Goblinstein5
Goblin Giant6
Pekka7

This Spooky Chess strategy thrives on casting spells to undermine the opponent’s fortresses, but this deck offers versatile options for you to breach their defenses. Key cards in this deck include Fisherman, Pekka, and a favorite among Beatdown players, Goblin Giant. The remaining cards serve as backup and your primary line of defense.

In most cases, it’s advisable to position your Pekka centrally on the map, allowing it to attract attacks from multiple directions. Position a Goblinstein behind your Pekka for additional support. The Bomber and your champion’s special ability can assist in dealing with any hordes of cards your opponent may deploy to counteract the Pekka.

To counterattack, opt for the Goblin Giant and strategically position the Fisherman behind it. The Fisherman can draw your opponent’s defensive cards away. Employ Rage so that the Goblin Giant reaches your opponent’s tower and inflicts damage. Zap is useful for eliminating air troops like Bats. If your adversary deploys Minion Horde, utilize a combination of Zap and Rage to get rid of it.

Use Zap at the right moment to help your Pekka win trades against your opponent’s Pekka

Recruits Firecracker Flying Machine

Clash Royale: Best Decks for Spooky Chess
Card NameElixir Cost
Zap2
Rage2
Giant Snowball2
Tornado3
Firecracker3
Flying Machine4
Goblinstein5
Royal Recruits7

In simpler terms, the Royal Recruits card in Clash Royale is often considered top-notch for applying pressure on two fronts simultaneously. Even when the concept of lanes is removed in Spooky Chess, the Royal Recruits remains a valuable choice for that event. Granted, its elixir cost is substantial, but it’s capable of effectively defending against most cards your opponent plays.

In this scenario, the devices named “Flying Machine” and “Firecracker” offer defensive reinforcement. Given that “Arrows” and “Fireball” are forbidden at the event, your competitor won’t be capable of eliminating your “Firecracker” and “Flying Machine” from their defensive positions. By utilizing “Tornado,” you can strategically position your “Firecracker” to target the enemy fortification, maintaining offensive momentum.

This Tornado deck works great with Goblinstein decks because it lets you draw enemies into the tornado. When extra damage is required, Zap and Giant Snowball are useful. Play defensively, focusing on attacking the opponent’s Dark Prince Tower. In the triple elixir stage, this deck becomes incredibly powerful, allowing for multiple Royal Recruits to be played on the field, overpowering your opponent.

Position the Aerial Vehicle at the back among the Noble Soldiers, making it difficult for your adversary to destroy it swiftly unless they have the Flame Projectile at their disposal.

Mirror Mega Knight Pheonix

Mirror?
Zap2
Rage2
Giant Snowball2
Firecracker3
Phoenix4
Goblinstein5
Mega Knight7

Since the introduction of the new Mega Knight Evo in Clash Royale alongside Pekka Evo launch, its popularity in the Top Ladder significantly increased. Although classic Mega Knight Bridge Spam decks aren’t particularly effective for the Spooky Chess event, the Mirror Mega Knight Phoenix deck has been successful, delivering consistent victories for players who employ it.

Despite being considered mostly a meme card, Mirror is the perfect choice for this deck. You can use it to mirror Mega Knight and put it on opposite sides of the arena. They can deal with just about anything your enemy puts down. With the Firecracker firing shots from the backline and splashing the enemy towers, you’ll be able to deal massive damage without committing too hard.

In this deck setup, Goblinstein is our go-to pick, as usual. Phoenix serves primarily as defense against your opponents’ flying cards. Employ Rage tactically to boost Goblinstein Tower towards the enemy base and trigger its special ability for significant damage on their towers. Lastly, you have the Giant Snowball and Zap for a touch of control and direct tower damage when required.

Try to protect the Phoenix Egg, if possible, to spawn another Phoenix.

Tips for Winning the Spooky Chess Event in Clash Royale

As we conclude our discussion, let me share some useful advice to ensure you’re well-equipped for the daunting chess battles in the Spooky Tournament within Clash Royale:

  • Goblinstein is arguably the best champion for this event. If the Goblinstein manages to get to your opponent’s tower, use the champion’s ability to deal massive damage and take the lead.
  • While big spells are banned, spell cycling is still a valid strategy to get tower damage in the Spooky Chess event in Clash Royale. Use Rage, Zap, or Snowball to deal direct tower damage during the double or triple elixir stage of the game.
  • Go for the Dark Prince Tower first with your win conditions. These towers constantly spawn the Dark Prince, which charges through the field. If you manage to take the opponent’s Dark Prince Tower down before they kill yours, you’ll have a numbers advantage in the match.
  • Avoid using high-elixir win conditions like the Golem or Giant since they can’t reach the enemy tower consistently.
  • The Mother Witch Tower will spawn Cursed Hogs if it hits your troops, so make sure you can handle it before you commit down the middle.
  • Only the damage done to King Tower and Mother Witch Tower in the tiebreaker counts.
  • When you’re up against Hog Rider or Royale Hog decks, make sure you deal with the win condition as soon as possible. It will run directly for the towers in the bottom row, ignoring the Guards.
