As a seasoned veteran of the gaming world and a dedicated fan of the Legacy of Kain series since its inception, I can’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia with the addition of Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Blood Omen 2 to the PS Plus Premium catalog. These games were part of my formative years as a gamer, and revisiting them brings back memories of countless hours spent exploring the dark, gothic world of Nosgoth.
Players who subscribe to PS Plus Premium can now delight in two cherished games from the Legacy of Kain collection, fully equipped with trophy compatibility. The games are none other than Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and The Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2, distinct from the forthcoming Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered duology. It’s worth noting that while it isn’t the first time classic games added to PS Plus have been trophy-enabled, this feature has historically been limited to titles developed or published by Sony.
The Legacy of Kain series began in 1996 with Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and had five installments released by 2003. The series was initially developed by the now-defunct Silicon Knights and published by Crystal Dynamics, who also owns the IP nowadays. However, it remained dormant until Square Enix sold Crystal Dynamics to Embracer Group, which wasted no time announcing remasters for Soul Reaver 1 & 2. The Soul Reaver duology comprises the second and third mainline entries, while Blood Omen 1 and Blood Omen 2 are the first and fourth games, respectively.
Today, subscribers of the PS Plus Premium service are granted access to 17 fresh games, including the classic PS1 title “Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain” and its sequel “Blood Omen 2” from the PS2 era. As reported by PSNProfiles, both games offer trophy support for the PS4 and PS5 versions, boasting a total of 21 trophies each, including platinum ones. The majority of these trophies are earned by advancing through the main storyline, but some relate to amassing upgrades. In “Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain”, for instance, there are trophies for discovering every weapon, armor, spell, and item. Additionally, there’s a trophy that requires players to inflict 250 mutilations, consume 500 meals, and slay 1,000 enemies – this may necessitate some minor farming activities.
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Blood Omen 2 Receive Trophy Support
In addition to campaign-related trophies, Blood Omen 2 offers unique challenges such as draining the blood of 200 entities or enhancing Kain’s Lore Bar nine times. There is a situational trophy named “When All Else Fails,” which requires players to conquer two stages exclusively using claws and/or Dark Powers. The inclusion of trophies in classic PS Plus games adds an extra layer of excitement for newcomers and long-term fans revisiting these legendary titles, providing additional motivation.
The games “Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain” and “Blood Omen 2” have recently been added to the PS Plus collection, a month before the upcoming release of the “Soul Reaver” remasters on December 10th. This means that almost all “Legacy of Kain” games will soon be playable on contemporary platforms. Although neither Crystal Dynamics nor Embracer Group has made any official announcements about future plans, the high level of interest among players in these titles could potentially lead to new developments for the “Legacy of Kain” series, possibly going beyond remasters.
