CoD 2026 reportedly at a “standstill” as Infinity Ward are unhappy with development

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of Call of Duty under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of worry as I read about the potential hiccups in the development of CoD 2026, also known as MW4. The Modern Warfare series has always been a personal favorite, with its gripping narratives and tactical gameplay that keep me on the edge of my seat.

Rumors suggest that the development of Call of Duty 2026 isn’t progressing smoothly, due to dissatisfaction among Infinity Ward team members regarding the storyline and gameplay mechanics.

According to reports, it seems that Call of Duty 2026 might be produced by Infinity Ward. This would mark the return of the Modern Warfare series following Black Ops 6 and a rumored CoD 2025, which is speculated to be a sequel to Black Ops 2.

As an enthusiast, I’m eagerly anticipating the upcoming title that’s been tentatively dubbed “MW4.” However, recent leaks from BobNetworkUK have stirred some concerns about its development process, hinting at potential issues.

Based on reports from a source, it appears that work on what is believed to be Modern Warfare 4 has come to a halt due to dissatisfaction with the storyline and gameplay elements. Simultaneously, there’s growing tension as Activision reportedly applies intense pressure on Infinity Ward.

It’s unclear what exact features the developers are unhappy about, but under Bob’s X post, some have proposed that Infinity Ward might dislike Omnimovement. This feature is not only significant in Black Ops 6, but it’s also expected to be a key element across all future Call of Duty games.

The progress on MW4 (Modern Warfare 4) has temporarily halted due to dissatisfaction within the team regarding the storyline and gameplay mechanics, and it appears that Activision is applying significant stress to the entire studio.

Responding to the mention of IW’s thoughts on omnimovement, Bob stated, “Apparently, they dislike it strongly.”

With OmniMovement, the concept of free movement reaches a new level, enabling players to run, roll, and glide in any direction, along with reinventing how one moves when lying down.

Treyarch views Ominimovement as a progression rather than a novelty in Call of Duty’s movement dynamics, distinct from innovations like Dolphin Diving or Exosuits. Essentially, it replaces the traditional, more static form of movement that has been prevalent for quite some time, where players could only run forward.

There seems to be some ambiguity about whether Infinity Ward specifically has issues with this specific mechanic, but it’s fascinating that leaks indicate they might be dissatisfied with the mechanics of MW4 (Modern Warfare 4).

For Call of Duty 2026, we’re clueless about its storyline, but if it continues in the Modern Warfare universe revived by Infinity Ward in MW19, it seems the developers might not be content with where it’s heading.

1. Remember, these are rumors based on leaks, but since Bob has a history of providing accurate info, his latest claims need to be taken seriously. However, it’s still early days for Call of Duty 2026, so we should stay tuned for further updates as more details emerge.

Despite facing some tension from Activision, Infinity Ward remains primarily dedicated to developing Black Ops 6. Players will have an early taste of this game through the beta, and they can gather additional information about it at the Call of Duty Next event.
