As a long-time Call of Duty fan who’s seen more than my fair share of Zombies stories unfold, I must say that Black Ops 6 has certainly piqued my interest with their latest reveal! The cinematic trailer for Zombies has got me hooked on the tense prison escape storyline and the mysterious Filipina smuggler, Maya Aguinaldo.

The sixth installment of the “Call of Duty: Black Ops” series, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, is scheduled for release on October 25th. This new version brings a refreshed Zombies mode to the table. In fact, they’ve already unveiled the first cinematic trailer for this Zombies mode. The narrative seems to center around a thrilling prison break, with Dr. William Peck reappearing and having liberated Requiem from their confinement at Terminus.

The characters Grigori Weaver, Oskar Strauss, Elizabeth Grey, Raptor One, and Mac Carver, previously detained, have returned to active duty. In addition, a new character, Maya Aguinaldo, has joined the Terminus team. Unlike Peck in his pursuit of freeing Requiem and seeking vengeance against Richtofen, Maya isn’t alone. She is accompanied by an enigmatic Filipino smuggler named Maya, who is searching for her missing brother. Although brief, the mention of Maya’s brother in the cinematic made it clear that his whereabouts will significantly impact the narrative. The identity of this unnamed sibling is being built up as a significant plot twist, but there are also many questions about who exactly he might be.

Maya’s Brother Could Play a Larger Role in Black Ops 6 Zombies‘ Story

Black Ops Could Introduce a New Character or Be Teasing Something More

In addition to the central theme of a prison break, the game Black Ops 6’s zombie mode also emphasizes that all operatives are united against a common adversary named Richtofen. Although it seems plausible that Maya’s conflict with Richtofen stems from her brother’s incarceration, the specific reasons for his imprisonment and the nature of his confinement remain shrouded in mystery. The Terminus escape storyline in Black Ops 6’s zombie mode continues to demonstrate its daring narrative choices.

It’s possible that Maya’s brother is saving a major revelation for the story’s climax. If players are to be impressed by this reveal, the Terminus team’s mission of battling through countless zombies to find Maya’s long-lost sibling should have a satisfying payoff. If her brother isn’t a new character, then the trailer may be hinting at the return of an old character who has been absent for quite some time. However, guessing who this could be is puzzling since there’s no obvious candidate.

As a gamer, it appears that Maya might be the sole operative of Filipina descent in Zombies so far, as Isabella Reyes from Vanguard isn’t quite in the same boat since she’s a character from World War 2 and not featured in Zombies. However, there’s a chance that the Call of Duty franchise could shake things up even more by introducing Maya’s brother as an entirely new character with an undisclosed role.

Black Ops 6 Zombies Potentially Setting Up a New Character

In terms of the Easter egg character, since the choices are somewhat unclear, it might be more logical for a completely new character, like Maya’s brother, to appear in the storyline. Given that Maya is a recent addition to the Zombies narrative, it seems fitting that her brother should also be a fresh face. However, this presents a challenge as his role must be significant enough to make the story satisfying. His potential connection to Richtofen could be crucial for his relevance in the story, but whether or not the developers successfully execute this is yet to be seen.

On the one hand, a twist that brings a long-gone character back may be the only way to make the hunt for Maya’s brother feel worthwhile. If the character is a new role and doesn’t get the proper build-up, then the main plot of Zombies could prove to be a disappointment. Black Ops 6 has high expectations from players, and the identity of Maya’s brother could potentially make or break the success of Zombies’ Terminus story.
