COD League 2025 Opening Night Defies Expectations and Reveals Issues

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must say that the Call of Duty League 2025 season opener was a rollercoaster ride, to say the least. The technical glitches and unexpected upsets were reminiscent of my early days in LAN parties, where connection drops and unpredictable outcomes were the norm.

2025’s Call of Duty League season has officially begun! Last night, the opening round took place, but much like past COD League events, it was overshadowed by technical difficulties and shattered hopes. Out of the four matches scheduled, only one followed the predicted outcome, with some unexpected upsets happening quite early on.

Tonight’s opening game might have established a pattern for the rest of the tournament, but it seems odd to declare such a thing so early on in the competition.

Big Upset

In their debut match of the season, the revamped Guerrillas M8 faced off against Minnesota Rokkr, who also unveiled a revamped team lineup. The outcome was uncertain until the last moment, but to everyone’s surprise, Rokkr managed to clinch victory in the eleventh round during the final game of Search.

As a dedicated fan, I’ve got to say, the excitement was sky-high with Guerrillas M8’s fresh lineup, boasting three world champions. The anticipation was running high that they would dominate. However, the match turned out to be an exhilarating nail-biter; the predicted victory wasn’t quite within our grasp.

That trend continued throughout the evening.

In the Call of Duty League, Boston Breach overpowered the current champions, OpTic Texas, for the fourth consecutive year in a row, marking their defeat in the inaugural match of a fresh CDL season.

In other games, Toronto Ultra thoroughly outmatched Atlanta FaZe, who are usually fan favorites. The only contest that followed predictable patterns was Vegas Falcons versus Carolina Royal Ravens. This one ended with a 1-3 scoreline in favor of the Ravens, which wasn’t surprising to many.

As a dedicated fan, I found myself anticipating the kickoff of the CDL 2025 season in the evening, but alas, some technical hiccups delayed the start, as they often do with this League. The first match was delayed by twenty minutes, and when we reached the halfway point during the Search round, the game lobby froze up, abruptly booting us all out.

This weekend, there are still many games left to play, but it appears that a significant change might be taking place this year – a possible transformation in the way things have been done traditionally.
