CoD players call out “evil” shutdown of highly awaited MW2 Remastered multiplayer mod

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of disappointment and disbelief at the turn of events surrounding the H2 Multiplayer mod for Modern Warfare Remastered. The anticipation for this project was palpable, and it seemed like a dream come true for fans of the original Modern Warfare 2.

Enthusiasts for Call of Duty were eagerly anticipating the jump into the H2 Multiplayer MW2 mod, set to debut on August 16. However, a day before its launch, Activision unexpectedly halted the project, leaving players infuriated and pleading with the publisher to reconsider their decision.

Even though the Black Ops 6 beta starts on August 30, there’s a lot of excitement surrounding H2 Multiplayer instead. This modification for Modern Warfare Remastered includes all the content from the original Modern Warfare 2, along with some appealing enhancements.

In the excitement for the upcoming mod, Modern Warfare Remastered surged to Steam’s top-selling games. However, on August 15, the developers received a cease-and-desist notice from Activision. They have stated that they are obeying this order and shutting down all operations permanently and immediately.

Today, we’ve been instructed by Activision Publishing to halt all activities associated with the H2M-Mod project via a Cease & Desist notice. Consequently, we are ceasing our operations on this project right away and permanently.

The crowd stood united behind the mod creators, voicing their disapproval towards Activision, particularly focusing on the inopportune moment of their actions. Many people accused them of allowing Modern Warfare Remastered’s sales to soar high before intervening.

“TrueGameData, a specialist in Call of Duty statistics, tweeted: ‘First let them earn profits from selling the remastered version, and then close it down.’ “

According to popular leaker TheGhostofHope, Activision had been aware of the project’s development for years yet didn’t stop it at that time. Instead, they chose to wait until a day before its launch to take action, which he found incredibly unethical and malicious.

As a devoted fan, I’m among those who implored TimTheTatman and others to reconsider their stance: “For the love of gaming, don’t make this move, Activision.”

Members of FaZe Clan, known for their popularity in games such as the original Modern Warfare 2, mirrored the sentiments. “This is innocent entertainment and a means of fostering community. Something we believe Call of Duty greatly lacks,” tweeted founder and CEO FaZe Banks. “We kindly ask you to make the right decision and allow the young players to enjoy their game.”

Dear Activision Team, we humbly request that you rethink your decision regarding the H2 mod’s ILLCAMS project. To clarify, we have no role in this project beyond being passionate fans. We were eager to contribute to the ILLCAMS on the H2 mod, but unfortunately, your team has mandated the purchase of the original MW2 Remastered as a prerequisite.

FaZe Jev, who started playing the game early on, seemed more understanding of the circumstances but expressed his disapproval in a video uploaded on August 15th. He stated, “Just because something is the way it is doesn’t make it just. I believe they are in the wrong for this, I think this move is underhanded, and I find it extremely selfish.”

Besides content creators and prominent community members, many others criticized Activision too, as Twitter and Reddit were filled with similar complaints. To add to this, the reviews for Modern Warfare Remastered on Steam have become predominantly negative.

If you bought Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered primarily for the H2 Multiplayer mod and have played fewer than two hours of the game, you might be eligible for a refund. However, it’s highly improbable that Activision will change their stance regarding this matter.
