In a captivating and outlandish tale, the Blumhouse horror movie titled M3GAN introduces a menacing doll designed to be a companion for solitary kids. Now, a different film is spinning a chilling yarn revolving around the theme of robots.
According to Bloody Disgusting, a fresh trailer has been released for the film titled “Companion“. This production is brought to you by Zach Cregger, who was both the writer and director of the 2022 horror masterpiece, “Barbarian”.
Despite the fact that horror enthusiasts may have already known this is a movie involving robots in a horror genre, the Companion trailer offers additional insights. The film features Sophie Thatcher as a robot character named Iris. During their conversation, Iris discusses her connection with Josh (portrayed by Jack Quaid).
There were two times in my life that brought me immense joy. One was the day I encountered Josh, and the other was… let’s say, the day I ended up parting ways with him permanently.
The film seems to be packed with unexpected plot twists, much like the movie “F Marry Kill” featuring Lucy Hale, and it presents an intriguing tale of a relationship spiraling out of control. Similarly, “Companion” draws inspiration from humorous, campy horror films such as “M3GAN,” as evidenced by a scene where Josh asks, “Are you breaking up with me?” to which Iris responds, “It’s not you, it’s me.” It remains to be seen if “Companion” will incorporate additional jokes about contemporary dating. Given the trailer shot of Iris covered in blood, it is apparent that “Companion” possesses a witty sense of humor, but also contains graphic violence.
Drew Hancock is the screenwriter and director of a movie featuring actors Megan Suri, Lukas Gage, Harvey GuillĂ©n, and Rupert Friend. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Hancock is also working on another project titled “My Wife and I Bought a Ranch,” which is currently under development for Amazon MGM Studios.
Thatcher is well-known in the horror genre for her roles in the gruesome teen series “Yellowjackets” and the horror movie starring Hugh Grant, “Heretic”. During an interview with The Cut, she discussed a particularly frightening opening scene from the film “Companion”, where her character isn’t exactly endearing. She explained:
Initially, I found myself shackled and vocalizing my distress, which then morphed into a heartfelt appeal for my partner’s continued affection. Never have I experienced a scene with such diverse twists and turns, but Jack Quaid demonstrated an exceptional ability to immerse himself in the character. Whenever I felt uncertain, I merely had to reflect on the feelings of another person. I can empathize with codependency in relationships, making it effortless for me to channel those emotions.
In horror films, it’s common to encounter unsettling dolls, a trope that’s always entertaining. However, it’s uncommon to witness a character developing a relationship with someone who turns out to be a robot, which seems to be the case here. The movie titled “Companion” is set to hit theaters on January 31st, 2025, and we can expect to see how Iris and Josh’s story unfolds. Given the plot, it’s likely that the film will hold several unexpected twists.
