As someone who’s been through the rollercoaster of gaming launches and closures, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia when I see Concord popping up again on Steam. It’s like that one high school crush who keeps texting you out of the blue, making you wonder if there’s still a chance.
Although Concord seems to be out of service for now, it’s not completely gone as it’s been receiving updates on Steam over the past few weeks. If you haven’t visited the Concord page on SteamDB recently, chances are you missed these ongoing changes.
For nearly a month now, the Steam version of the game has been receiving frequent daily updates from different users like “pmtest”, “sonyqae_shipping”, and “sonyqae”. Although the specifics of these updates remain unclear, there’s buzz suggesting that the game might be planning to relaunch as a free-to-play option.
At the tail end of August, Concord debuted to a relatively small player base of under 700 on Steam, and it’s said that only about 25,000 copies were sold across PC and PlayStation 5. A mere two weeks post-launch, Sony and developer Firewalk Studios pulled the plug on the game. Following this, Ryan Ellis, the game director, resigned from his position.
As someone who’s been following the gaming world closely, it’s no secret that this much-anticipated game, developed over eight long years at a whopping $400 million cost, might be making a comeback as a free-to-play experience. You might recall that back in its open beta phase, the game attracted only 2,388 players at its peak.

There’s been no comment from PlayStation or Firewalk about what these updates could be for.
