Concord Director Steps Down Two Weeks After Game Goes Offline

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of empathy for Ryan Ellis and the team at Firewalk Studios. The downfall of Concord was a hard hit for everyone involved, and it’s heart-wrenching to see a game that promised so much fall flat on its face.

Two weeks ago, our game Concord flopped so hard it got yanked offline, leaving us at Firewalk Studios feeling downright dejected. The project we’d poured years into was Dead on Arrival (DOA), barely attracting players and falling short by such a huge margin that it didn’t even manage to make a ripple at launch.

As a devoted fan, I’m sharing some exciting news that’s been making waves in the gaming community. The esteemed figure behind our beloved game, Ryan Ellis, who served as its director, has recently transitioned from his leading position into a ‘support role’. This update comes straight from the reliable sources at Kotaku.

Going Down

According to an article on Kotaku, Ellis was the primary decision-maker for Concord, a game that flopped almost immediately after its release last month. Interestingly, it wasn’t until this summer that a decent trailer for the game was released, leaving many people skeptical about the high price tag given its potential success as a free-to-play shooter instead.

In a quote handed to Kotaku, it was said:

Ryan wholeheartedly embraced that project, recognizing its potential for uniting players through their shared enjoyment. Despite acknowledging areas where adjustments might have been beneficial during the creation process… he’s an admirable individual, brimming with compassion.

Two weeks back, Ellis was the one who shared a blog post detailing the upcoming closure of Concord. In his post, he mentioned that the game didn’t meet the expectations of Firewalk’s team, and they were planning to take it offline to consider alternative solutions. Unfortunately, since then, the broader gaming industry seems to have moved on from Concord.

Approximately 160 developers make up Firewalk Studios, and currently, many of them are anxious about their employment stability. The situation is uncertain; the team might decide to change its business model, eliminate the high price point, or alternatively, the studio could close down, leaving Concord as a regrettable memory.
