- The upcoming hero shooter Concord has been in development for nearly a decade.
- First announced in 2023, the game has been criticized for its lack of originality, pulling in low player counts during its beta period.
- Lead character designer Jon Weisnewski hopes that gamers will give the game a chance when it launches on August 23 for PC and PlayStation 5.
As a gamer with a decade-long journey under my belt, I can honestly say that I’m both excited and apprehensive about Concord. Having witnessed the evolution of games like Overwatch 2 and Valorant, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as another hero shooter is about to enter the fray. However, what intrigues me is the dedication shown by Jon Weisnewski and his team at Firewalk Studios, who have been working tirelessly on this project for nearly eight years.
As reported by a developer from Firewalk Studios, the game titled “Concord” has been under development for close to a decade. Tomorrow, on August 23, this highly anticipated hero shooter is scheduled to go live, marking the end of its long journey and making “Concord” officially available to the public.
For the first time, gamers caught a glimpse of Concord during Sony’s State of Play in May 2024. The announcement sparked curiosity and unease among some, as critics pointed out similarities between the game’s characters and those from Guardians of the Galaxy, causing a bit of controversy before its release. With just a few hours left until Concord hits the shelves, both skeptical players and eager fans will soon find out what Firewalk Studios has been working on for the PS5 and PC. Although it wasn’t officially announced until August 2023, it seems like we’ve all been waiting a long time for Concord to arrive.
Jon Weisnewski, the primary character designer for “Concord”, shared in a tweet that Firewalk Studios has been working on the hero shooter game for approximately eight years. To mark the launch of “Concord”, Weisnewski expressed his enthusiasm about witnessing the fruits of the development team’s labor.
Firewalk Studios Has Worked On Concord For Nearly A Decade
In the tweet, Weisnewski asked for “good vibes” as Concord launches to the public. Out of the eight years Concord has been in development, Weisnewski has been there for five. Continuing to share his excitement, Weisnewski stated in a continuing Twitter thread that his appreciation for the opportunity to work in a creative environment with fellow developers has been a rewarding experience. He also expressed his hope that gamers will give Concord a chance, promising the game is a deep and meaningful entry to the hero shooter genre.
While there are increasingly favorable comments about the game, it’s been a challenging journey for Concord so far. After facing criticism after its unveiling and low beta participation rates, Concord has an uphill battle post-release. The game from Firewalk Studios is set to compete with heavyweights like Overwatch 2 and Valorant, which have dominated the genre. Although Concord boasts intriguing ideas such as weekly cinematics that delve into its characters, it might not have garnered the level of anticipation that Firewalk Studios and Sony were aiming for. Despite this potential setback in terms of initial buzz, positive reviews and beta feedback may help generate enough curiosity to attract players to explore what Concord has in store.
