As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve noticed that some online sellers are asking outrageous prices for the physical versions of Concord for PlayStation 5. The live-service hero shooter might have shut down, but it hasn’t stopped a few folks from pricing these Concord PS5 discs at hundreds of dollars each. It’s baffling, to say the least!
One significant flop in the gaming industry and potentially one of the biggest losses for PlayStation, a game named “Concord“, was unveiled by Sony’s first-party team Firewalk Studios in August 2024. Regrettably, the live-service hero shooter elements of “Concord” failed to resonate with PS5 and PC gamers. Consequently, Sony offered refunds and deactivated the game within just two weeks of its release. Shortly afterward, the company announced that “Concord” would not be restored and Firewalk Studios, the developer behind it, was closed permanently.
Since digital play of the game Concord is no longer possible and all its online features are deactivated, physical copies of the game for PS5 have become one of the last remaining evidence of its existence. Some of these discs can be found on eBay, with prices that skyrocket compared to their usual range. While most listings for Concord PS5 discs typically fall between $15 and $40, some sellers are taking advantage of the game’s scarcity by listing copies for over $300. A few outrageous examples even have prices as high as $500, but the most extravagant listing for Concord goes all the way up to an astounding $2,250.
Concord PS5 Copies Listed for As Much as $2,250 on eBay
Although acquiring a Concord game copy essentially means buying a disc with no practical worth beyond its status as an intriguing and contentious artifact of PlayStation legacy, it’s worth noting that the game’s physical versions aren’t the only things fetching high prices. The limited-edition PS5 DualSense controller for Concord is being resold for approximately $250-$320, with some listings reaching as high as $750 – a significant markup from its initial price of $85. Unlike the game itself, the Concord controller is functional and, given its scarcity, the elevated prices can be rationalized. Some may even appreciate the controller’s vibrant sci-fi design.
It’s extremely unlikely that gamers will be purchasing the PS5 version of Concord for such exorbitant prices, especially when other sellers offer it at much lower costs. Given that Concord is now essentially out of production, it might make more sense to buy a physical copy as a collector’s item, serving as a reminder of what could be PlayStation’s most significant failure. Since then, Sony appears to be adopting a more cautious approach towards its Game-as-a-Service (GaaS) strategy, with the company canceling two upcoming first-party live-service PlayStation games within the past few months.
