These cinematics serve as a smooth introduction to Concord’s universe, gradually unveiling characters and essential world elements. However, to explore all the richness that Concord’s universe has in store, you should venture into the Galactic Guide when you’re ready.

In Concord‘s Galactic Map, the Galactic Guide serves as a navigational tool for players, showcasing different planets and ship routes within the game. Each point of interest offers a short backstory, helping players understand the game’s history. With numerous points of interest in the Galactic Guide, players will gradually uncover the larger storyline of the game, realizing that most of it centers around two main factions. One of these factions is the Freegunners, a band of rogues and hired guns, and the faction to which the player belongs.

The Lore of Concord’s Freegunner Faction Explained

What Is a Freegunner?

At the beginning, I’d like to highlight that Concord is divided into two main groups: the Freegunners and the Guild. Initially, the Guild was a strong group of merchants, but they now rule over the entire Concord galaxy. To some, the Guild seems like a harsh government that relentlessly takes away the galaxy’s independence. They manage the space lanes and set up numerous checkpoints on various routes to prevent illegal trading. However, the Freegunners have devised methods to bypass these restrictions.

Using the Galactic Handbook as their resource, the Concord Freegunner group can discover secret routes scattered throughout the cosmos. These covert paths enable them to sneak past Guild surveillance points unnoticed, which is beneficial given their occupation. Many of these Freegunners are involved in smuggling activities; they either acquire rare Salt Fuel used to fuel ships’ engines and sell it illegally, or they pilfer vital data from the Guild for use in aiding the ongoing rebellion against the oppressive regime. However, when the same goal is at stake, the Freegunners will engage in fierce competition, leading to a no-holds-barred situation.

The Freegunners’ Origins Explained

A long time prior to the narrative of Concord, the Guild held absolute power across the galaxy. However, this changed when the crew of the Implacable chose to establish their own reputation. Known as the first Freegunners, this daring crew made a bold move by stealing the Galactic Guide from the Guild and opting to distribute it freely among the stars instead of selling it for profit.

Due to having the authentic Galactic Guide, the Implacable became a prime target for the Guild, leading to their relentless pursuit. This chase led them into the path of The Tempest, a colossal space storm that had cleaved the galaxy two years prior. The crew of the Implacable is believed to have perished, yet no one can be certain about what’s hidden within The Tempest. Many Freegunners continue to hold out hope for their return.

Currently, Freegunner crews navigate their way through the cosmos using the Galactic Map as their guide. Whenever they stumble upon a profitable route, like the Pirate Pike which winds through the Glacier Nebula and is rich with Guild mines, or Sladie’s Passage first mapped by a member of the Implacable faction, Freegunners are motivated to inform fellow comrades about their findings. This shared knowledge helps keep the entire faction one step ahead of potential adversaries.
