Conor McGregor’s Hitman Partnership Cut After Sexual Assault Verdict

As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the recent turn of events involving Conor McGregor and Hitman: World of Assassination has left me both intrigued and disheartened. On one hand, it’s fascinating to witness the dynamic interplay between virtual reality and real-life events, particularly when they concern a public figure like McGregor.

Last week, Conor McGregor was convicted in an Irish court for sexual assault accusations. He was mandated to pay approximately $300,000 in compensation due to claims that he viciously attacked and injured a woman at a hotel in the year 2018.

Due to recent developments, IO Interactive has chosen to terminate their partnership with Conor McGregor. In July, McGregor was introduced in Hitman: World of Assassination as a unique target for the ‘The Disruptor’ DLC expansion. Interestingly, some fans of McGregor expressed disapproval towards players who kept on assassinating his game character repeatedly.

Conor McGregor’s character has been removed from the game and the DLC has been pulled from sale.

Elusive Indeed

IO Interactive, creators of Hitman: World of Assassination, recently announced that the character based on Conor McGregor, known as ‘Elusive Target’, has been taken out of the game. They shared this information through their social media channels with the following statement:

Due to a recent court judgement involving Conor McGregor, IO Interactive has chosen to end their partnership with him, effective straight away. We recognize the gravity of this situation and feel it necessary to act accordingly. As a result, we will start deleting any content related to Mr. McGregor from our online shops starting today.

The response was diverse; a large portion of players expressed their wish for IO Interactive to continue featuring McGregor within the game, enabling players to virtually mete out retribution on his character.

Conor McGregor has announced his intention to challenge the decision made by Dublin’s High Court. On social media, McGregor faced a wave of mockery, with numerous memes and videos featuring him leaving the court with his upset partner, Dee Devlin, appearing online.

As a dedicated Hitman fan, I’ve seen how IO Interactive has reshuffled the Elusive Targets over the years, some making a comeback and others being permanently taken out of play. One of the most iconic targets was Mark Faba, portrayed by Sean Bean, who made his debut in 2018 and reappeared later on. However, it’s clear that we won’t be seeing Conor McGregor’s ‘Disruptor’ anytime soon.
