Known for decades as the iconic voice actor behind various Batman characters in animated series and video games, Kevin Conroy passed away from cancer in November 2022. Since then, more of his roles have been unveiled posthumously. In an upcoming anime adaptation of Capcom’s Devil May Cry, Conroy is set to deliver what may be his last voice acting performance.
In the latest teaser for the upcoming Netflix series, it’s been made clear that Conroy will be playing a part. This series is a collaboration between Netflix, Studio MIR, and the producer of Castlevania, Adi Shankar. Shankar promises fans that they can expect Conroy’s authentic voice in the series, as it wasn’t synthesized or altered using artificial intelligence. The Devil May Cry anime will be available on Netflix starting April 3.
Kevin Conroy’s Devil May Cry Role
An Anime-Original Character
In a fresh addition to the series, Kevin Conroy lends his voice to the character VP Baines, who is set to make his entrance in the anime. The star-studded cast already includes Scout Taylor-Compton as Mary, Hoon Lee as White Rabbit, Chris Coppola as Enzo, and Johnny Yong Bosch as Dante. A sneak peek of Conroy’s performance can be heard in the trailer shared on March 12 and other promotional materials leading up to the launch of the Devil May Cry anime. Remarkably, Conroy had recorded the character’s lines before his passing.
In the last animation, Kevin Conroy voiced a character in “He-Man and Masters of the Universe” back in 2022. His final credited role was a posthumous one in the 2024 release of “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” video game. It’s worth noting that Kevin Conroy’s last portrayal of Batman was in “Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 3,” also released in 2024. However, it remains unclear how deeply his character will be integrated into the storyline of the latest “Devil May Cry.” The most recent trailer for “Devil May Cry” has already attracted over a million views within a day.
Prior to his departure, Mr. Conroy had already delivered an exceptionally subtle performance that was truly captivating. Working alongside him was both enjoyable and a privilege. (AI not involved)
