Controversial Switch 2 Launch Title Has More Interest Than You May Realize

In approximately two weeks, we can expect the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2. It’s been quite some time since its introduction, with the initial release happening back in March 2017 – that’s almost eight years ago!

I must admit, I wasn’t surprised at all when the demand for this console soared, selling out in a blink of an eye online. Even though many predicted it would be too costly, Nintendo underestimated the enthusiasm among fans like myself!

It’s quite surprising that Nintendo is charging $10 for the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, a game primarily designed to showcase the new console’s features. The idea is to engage users interactively and entertainingly with the upcoming Switch 2. This brings back memories of the Nintendo Wii launch, where Wii Sports was offered free as part of the package. Wii Sports became incredibly popular and one of the best-selling games ever. It’s unlikely that Welcome Tour will have the same impact, but it’s also improbable that it will remain unsold for long.

A Surprising Number of People Are Interested in Buying Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour

A discussion ongoing in a Nintendo Switch 2 Reddit forum presents a straightforward query: Will you be purchasing the Welcome Tour?

As a fellow enthusiast, I must admit that the general consensus seems to be leaning towards a “no” when it comes to purchasing

In simpler terms, the highly upvoted comment expresses agreement with the issue and adds that while it might have been better if the item were free, $10 is not an unreasonable demand. Another user then chimes in, suggesting that it would be great if the item turns out to be enjoyable when it’s released.

Initially, when people think of the Wii, they recall Wii Sports. However, alongside the Wii U’s debut, Nintendo offered a complimentary game: Nintendo Land. Although not as captivating or legendary as Wii Sports, Nintendo Land surprisingly provided an enjoyable, yet shallow experience. Crucially, it was free and we didn’t have to spend $10 on it. It would be delightful to have a similar game that helps us familiarize ourselves with the new features of Switch 2. Frankly, while it might prove entertaining, it’s not fair to charge money for such a game.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll be surprised when the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour rolls out simultaneously with the Switch 2 console, which is slated for launch on June 5th.
