Bend Studio, one of the PlayStation’s in-house teams, has given fans an optimistic hint about upcoming projects. Their current AAA live-service project was recently scrapped as part of a review process, but it seems this setback hasn’t dampened their spirits.
Due to the reported internal disagreements at Bend Studio regarding a follow-up to 2019’s Days Gone, the studio disclosed in June 2022 that they were developing an entirely new concept. Information about this original venture has been largely confidential, but Bend Studio confirmed it would expand on the open-world framework of Days Gone and incorporate multiplayer aspects. Some recent leaks have unveiled a few preliminary design sketches for the unnamed game by Bend Studio, hinting at it potentially being a live-service military shooter set in an open world.
Despite the disappointment of PlayStation’s cancellation of Bend Studio’s live-service game, it appears that Bend Studio remains optimistic. On Twitter, Bend Studio community manager Kevin McAllister expressed gratitude for fan support and reassured them that the team is still focused on “creating cool things.
Bend Studio Assures Fans That It’ll Keep Creating “Cool” Games
Initially, news broke out about Bend Studio’s live-action game being canceled, and it was also disclosed that Sony (PlayStation) was collaborating with the studio to decide on their upcoming project. Over a considerable period, Bend Studio had been working on their now-scrapped live-service title, and if their next game is of comparable scale, it may not be unveiled until after the PlayStation 5’s lifespan has ended. Fortunately, Bend Studio expresses optimism about producing an excellent product, and given that Sony appears to be slowing down its live-service developments, there’s a strong possibility that their next game will focus on single-player experiences.
The surge in requests for a “Days Gone” sequel has not gone unnoticed, despite Bend Studio ruling out the possibility last year. However, if fan demand is strong enough, they might reconsider and revive the “Days Gone” franchise. Intriguingly, whispers in recent times suggest that a remastered version of “Days Gone” could be coming for the PS5 and possibly PC. Despite the fact that “Days Gone” sold millions on the PS4, the success of the remaster might influence whether we see a “Days Gone” sequel in the future.
