Costco has stopped selling Xbox consoles, calling it a standard business choice. Although a few stores may still have current Xbox models available, they are currently working to sell off their remaining stock.
In late September 2025, Costco, the large retailer based in Washington, quietly stopped selling Xbox consoles on its website. The entire section dedicated to Xbox products was removed without any announcement.
Costco Confirms Pulling the Plug on Xbox Console Inventory
A Costco representative confirmed to the LA Times Studios that the company is discontinuing Xbox consoles. They described the decision as a standard business move and stated they don’t plan to restock Xbox hardware. Costco currently carries PlayStation and Nintendo Switch consoles, and feels those are enough to meet customer demand for gaming products.
Costco’s Xbox Clearout Is Global
Costco is discontinuing Xbox consoles not just in the US, but also internationally. Recent reports show significant discounts – up to 50% – on Xbox Series X and S consoles in New Zealand as Costco clears out its stock. The consoles are also no longer listed on Costco’s UK website. As of late September 2025, it appears Costco is reducing its Xbox inventory in all 11 of its other operating countries.
More Xbox Price Hikes Are Around the Corner
Just days after Microsoft announced another price increase for the Xbox Series X/S – the second in five months – Costco began clearing out its Xbox inventory. Starting October 3rd, the Xbox Series S (512GB) will cost $399.99, up from $379.99, and the base Xbox Series X will rise from $549.99 to $599. The 2TB Xbox Series X and the Galaxy Black Special Edition will jump to $800 – a first for Microsoft consoles. This timing suggests Costco’s sale might be a reaction to the price increases, especially if Xbox sales were already slow.
Microsoft explained that overall economic conditions are the main reason for upcoming price changes, including a price increase for the Xbox starting in May 2025. These conditions are largely due to recent policies from the U.S. government that involve high tariffs, which many companies are now passing on to customers.
