Mario Kart World has been one of the most talked-about games this year. As the first completely new addition to the series in over a decade, Mario Kart World is one of Nintendo’s most eagerly awaited titles and recently featured in its own Nintendo Direct. Scheduled for release on the debut day of the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, it’s certain to be a game that everyone will want to play as soon as the new console hits the market.
Instead of focusing primarily on its $80 price point, the novel aspects of gameplay in Mario Kart World are poised to steer the franchise into unexpected territory. The standout new features include open-world and off-road elements that promise to make Mario Kart World the most expansive installment in the series. Additionally, players will have the opportunity to unlock unique costumes for each character, a welcome addition with room for improvement in terms of ease-of-use.
Mario Kart World’s Costumes Are A Double-Edged Sword
Mario Kart World’s Costumes Offer Plenty Of Options
It’s truly remarkable how much flexibility and choice in character costumes Mario Kart World provides, considering that most previous versions of the Mario Kart series seldom featured customizable costumes. In fact, aside from color variations for characters like Yoshis and Shy Guys, or costumes for Mii racers, there were very few costume options in earlier games such as Mario Kart Tour. This is a significant change for the franchise. Moreover, with over 100 confirmed costumes already, this level of customization for Mario Kart characters is unlike anything we’ve seen before.
In addition, it’s quite conspicuous that this upcoming game,
Mario Kart World’s Costumes Will Require A Lot Of Scrolling
In the exciting expansion of Mario Kart World, the introduction of new character costumes certainly adds flair. However, it can be quite inconvenient that each costume occupies its own space on the character selection screen. Since not all characters are visible simultaneously, players will have to navigate through multiple menus to select their preferred characters. This becomes more tedious as there are 50 confirmed playable characters in total, with only 12 visible at once on the selection screen. With approximately 100 costume variations to choose from, players will find themselves scrolling through numerous screens to select the desired costume.
At present, the character selection screen displays up to 13 pages of characters, which equates to approximately 156 selectable characters if each page is fully populated with 12 characters per page. This extensive list might be more user-friendly if the game allowed players to choose their character first and then presented a separate menu for available costumes. If such an arrangement isn’t feasible, the game could consider incorporating a feature similar to Super Smash Bros., where pressing a specific button during character selection would allow users to quickly switch between different costumes while highlighting a character.
In the game “Mario Kart World”, introducing new character costumes is exciting, but it can be quite annoying because each costume occupies a separate space on the selection screen for characters.
Mario Kart World’s Costumes Will Be Harder To Scroll Through In Multiplayer
It seems there’s an additional hassle in local multiplayer mode for Mario Kart World. Specifically, when playing with four players, the character selection screen will reduce from 12 characters to just 6. Given that the maximum roster is 156 characters, this means players would need to scroll through about 26 pages of options to select their preferred costume.
While it’s possible that the compressed character selection in the footage could be an early version of the game, if Nintendo doesn’t address this issue by launch, they will likely need to make changes in a subsequent update to improve the user experience.
In a refreshing development for the beloved Mario Kart series, Mario Kart World appears poised to bring significant changes. However, it seems there are areas that Nintendo could tweak for the comfort of players. Though it’s thrilling to see an array of character costumes on offer, navigating through numerous pages filled with options might deter players from exploring these new options fully. Fingers crossed that Nintendo streamlines this process and makes character customization more accessible in Mario Kart World.
