It’s increasingly looking like Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie will be the starters for the Pokémon Legends: Z-A game. The game was teased last year with a short CG trailer that provided some key insights about what to expect in the upcoming release, but there are still many mysteries to unravel.

The initial trailer for “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” has revealed that the upcoming game will take place within Lumiose City of the Kalos region. Some familiar Pokemon have been confirmed for “Z-A”, and it’s been hinted that Mega Evolutions will reappear. As for other details about what “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” has to offer, they still remain largely unknown, such as which starter Pokemon players will be able to pick.

As of now, The Pokemon Company hasn’t disclosed the starters for “Pokemon Legends: Z-A”, but there’s a growing belief that the starters could be Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie, as they were the starting trio in the Kalos region games, Pokemon X and Y. Notably, respected leakers have suggested that these three might reappear in “Pokemon Legends: Z-A”, and recent artwork from the 2025 Pokemon World Championships, featuring Fennekin and Chespin, has fueled this theory even further.

In the game called Pokemon Legends: Z-A, instead of being located in the Kalos region where Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie might have been expected to appear as starters, it breaks the trend established by Arceus. Unlike how Pokemon Legends: Arceus was set in a past Sinnoh region without its traditional starter Pokemon, Pokemon Legends: Z-A doesn’t appear to be following suit by offering an assortment of starters from different regions.

Even if Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie become the starters in “Pokemon Legends: Z-A”, it doesn’t guarantee they will be identical to how fans remember them. These three Pokemon could have some unique differences according to reliable leakers within the Pokemon community. They might evolve into different final forms like the starters from Arceus, or alternatively, they could receive new Mega Evolutions. For now, fans can only guess, but we’re close to learning more definite details.
