Creators Of Skyblivion Mod Received Free Oblivion Remastered Game Keys From Bethesda

It seems that Bethesda believes there’s space for more than one fresh take on Oblivion within the gaming market.

As a devoted fan, I’m eagerly anticipating the launch of Skyblivion, an extraordinary fan-created world that seamlessly blends Oblivion with Skyrim, a project underway since 2016. This incredible mod is slated for release in the coming months!

Yet, unexpectedly, Bethesda has unveiled the long-speculated Oblivion Remastered, which might cast doubt on the fate of Skyblivion. Nevertheless, it seems that those who are eagerly anticipating the mod can rest easy.

As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that, based on a recent update from the Skyblivion X account, it seems Bethesda is wholeheartedly backing our beloved project! In fact, they’ve generously provided free game keys for Oblivion Remastered to the dedicated team behind its development. What a fantastic show of support!

Bethesda Has ‘No Intention’ Of Shutting Down The Project

In a reply to the previous post, Skyblivion explained Bethesda’s stance on their work.

Additionally, Bethesda clarified that they do not plan on terminating our ongoing initiative.

According to a recent update on Discord (via VG247), they are persisting in their efforts to meet the 2025 release date for Skyblivion. They concluded by stating, “There’s space for both the official remaster and our fan-made remake, and we – the fans – are the ones who ultimately benefit from this.

This position mirrors their response to rumors concerning the official remaster earlier this month, stating that both versions can peacefully coexist without the necessity of comparing them.

It’s logical for Bethesda to be highly supportive of their modding community given the extensive modding history across their game series. However, it appears that the mod support for Oblivion Remastered is not as robust at the moment.

While not all production studios are as welcoming towards their modding communities, it’s important to note that extensive modifications may attract the displeasure of publishers and intellectual property owners.

Despite some reservations, it’s evident that Bethesda has endorsed the Skyblivion team in a straightforward manner. If there were any problems with the project during the development phase of Oblivion Remastered, or if they believed it could compete negatively, they would have halted it long ago.

Upon its launch, Skyblivion will be accessible free of charge to individuals who own both Skyrim Special Edition and the Oblivion GOTY Deluxe on Steam. It stands as a compelling alternative to Oblivion Remastered, offering an enhanced gameplay experience for those who prefer a delayed release over immediate remastering.

If you’re interested in the project, more details can be found on its official site.
