Creature Commandos Ranked: The Undead Bride Reigns Supreme

James Gunn has been assigned to revamp the struggling DC Cinematic Universe, and his initial move towards this endeavor is the creation of an animated show titled “Reimagined DC Squad“. Although most casual comic book enthusiasts might not have recognized the team in December 2024, the series’ popularity and quality ought to make them aware.

Title Character Analysis: The Creature Commandos

The animated series “Creatures Commandos” does a commendable job of tidying up the messy lore within the DC Universe. Filled with James Gunn’s signature wit, it boasts some spectacularly choreographed action sequences. Although the team members might not be household names yet, they are quickly winning over fans’ hearts. This motley crew was intentionally assembled from lesser-known characters, setting them apart from powerhouses like the Justice League or Avengers. However, they aren’t pushovers either.

Let us rank these Creature Commandos based on their displayed abilities, vulnerabilities, and achievements in the show.

Caution: Entire Series Spoilers Ahead

The majority of the instances provided relate to the initial episodes of Season 1, but there are also hints about events unfolding later in the season.

6. Rick Flag Sr.

The Team’s Veteran Human Leader

Major Strengths: Major Weaknesses:
Leadership No Superhuman Abilities
Tactics Emotional Vulnerability After Son’s Death
Firearm Proficiency
Hand-To-Hand Combat Skills

Rick Flag Senior serves as the human commander for the Creature Commandos, appointed by Amanda Waller. His role involves keeping a tight rein on the team members to ensure they adhere to their assigned tasks and don’t attempt an escape. Sadly, his son, Rick Flag Junior, who previously led the Suicide Squad, met his unfortunate end at the hands of Peacemaker in one of the most acclaimed DCEU films titled “The Suicide Squad.

Flag may seem captivating, yet his lower position in the rankings isn’t unexpected. Despite being an expert military officer and leader, he lacks extraordinary powers or advanced technology at his disposal.

So far on the series, he’s battled both Frankenstein and Dr. Phosphorus and managed to survive, but it’s likely that he wouldn’t have made it if they had given their full might against him. Among a team of superpowered individuals, Flag is simply human.

5. Weasel

Does Whatever A Weasel Can

Major Strengths: Major Weaknesses:
Enhanced Strength and Speed Unstable Mental State
Razor Sharp Teeth And Claws Low Intelligence
Agility Unpredictable

As a passionate admirer, I can’t help but share my excitement! Weasel, who graced our screens in the latest Suicide Squad movie, is now diving headfirst into the animated world. Known predominantly for his comedic relief, he may not have been the most formidable member of the Suicide Squad on screen, but he’s quickly becoming a beloved Character Commando among fans like me.

The series has already provided a glimpse into Weasel’s past, revealing that contrary to the film’s portrayal, he’s not the ravenous monster we were led to believe.

In the series, Weasel displays greater courage than in the movie and unexpectedly competes effectively against Circe. He appears to possess strength above the average human male and is equipped with sharp teeth and talons. Yet, it’s revealed that he is vulnerable to standard firearms and seems relatively unintelligent. Despite being a valuable team member, he is noticeably less powerful than many of the other characters.

4. Nina Mazursky

A Human Fish Out Of Water

Major Strengths: Major Weaknesses:
Amphibious Physiology Needs A Helmet To Breathe
Ability To Breathe Underwater Lacks Other Enhanced Abilities
Super Genius Intellect

Nina is challenging to evaluate due to her limited involvement in the series, with significant contributions not occurring until episode 7. It’s only in Creature Commandos that we learn she’s a scientist and has a unique requirement for water to breathe. In the sparse action scenes she participates in, her performance is often disastrous, culminating in a particularly catastrophic result on one occasion.

In the comics, she’s portrayed as the child of the scientist who initiated the first Creature Commandos squad, originally a human who transformed into a sea-dwelling beast. However, the series doesn’t highlight Nina’s abilities extensively.

3. G.I. Robot

A Literal Nazi-Hunting Killing Machine

Major Strengths: Major Weaknesses:
Enhanced Strength And Speed Limited By Programming
Weaponized Limbs Obsessed With Nazis
Can Fly / Hover
Enhanced Senses

In the comic series, several versions of the character G.I. Robot have appeared, and it’s uncertain which one serves as the basis for the animated version. The audience was able to witness him at his peak performance in only a few scenes, but it’s indisputable that G.I. Robot is essentially an unstoppable force when it comes to destruction.

The G.I. Robot, despite being constructed during WW2 and updated in the 60s, exhibits advanced technology for a robot. Notably, he can transform both of his arms into machine guns and shed his legs to fly or hover. He has demonstrated impressive firepower, taking down numerous enemies simultaneously, but there’s a risk of friendly fire due to his tendency to become overzealous. Regrettably, his defensive capabilities are not as strong as his offensive ones, making him vulnerable, as Circe was able to handle him with ease.

2. Dr. Phosphorus

A Radioactive Psychopath

Major Strengths: Major Weaknesses:
Radiation Manipulation Burns Everything He Touches
Heat Powers Mentally Unstable
Enhanced Durability

The team known as Creature Commandos didn’t delve into Dr. Phosphorus’ past until episode 6. Originally named Doctor Alexander Sartorius, he was a nuclear physicist who constructed a personal nuclear power plant near Gotham. When it exploded, his mind snapped but he gained extraordinary powers as a result. He subsequently employed these powers to transform into a criminal mastermind and confront Batman.

In one-on-one encounters as well as larger skirmishes, Dr. Phosphorus demonstrates his impressive strength, harnessing his nuclear abilities to produce intense heat. This power comes in handy during combat, causing burns upon contact with opponents like Flag and Circe, and even shielding him against ranged gunfire from enemies.

In fights, Dr. Phosphorus uses his unique ability to create heat, which can hurt opponents like Flag or Circe and protect him from bullets in group battles. This shows how powerful he is on the team.

1. The Bride

Won’t Let Being Undead Stop Her

Major Strengths: Major Weaknesses:
Zombie Physiology Lacks Social Skills
Superhuman Strength Cannot Heal Naturally From Injuries
Enhanced Durability/ Immortality
Combat Skills
Decades Of Experience

It’s quite evident that among the Creature Commando team, The Bride stands out as the most powerful member. Although Flag holds the position of captain, it’s The Bride who delivers the hard hits. Due to her unique undead status, she seems nearly invincible and demonstrates remarkable feats of superhuman strength.

She boasts an extraordinary fighting ability, having amassed more than a century’s worth of battle experience. Her age might surprisingly be her most potent asset, making her more experienced than Flag. However, it could be said that her main drawback is her reluctance to work as part of a team. This seems poised to change with her inclusion in the Creature Commandos. As for now, unless Dr. Phosphorus or Nina undergo significant enhancements, or Eric Frankenstein becomes a permanent member, it appears The Bride will continue to be the most powerful team member.
