I’m getting super hyped for Crimson Desert! Apparently, it’s going to really shine on the PlayStation 5 Pro, taking full advantage of the upgraded hardware. They’re letting us customize how the game looks, which is awesome. With the game coming out in just a few weeks, all this new info makes it sound even more incredible than I thought!
Originally intended as a backstory to the online game Black Desert Online, Crimson Desert has become a standalone, single-player action-adventure game set in a vast medieval world. First looks at the game highlight its exciting combat system, which focuses on skillful strategy and quick combos. Players can battle huge bosses, choose from a wide variety of weapons, fight while riding a mount, and enjoy numerous optional activities like fishing, hunting, cooking, and crafting.
Crimson Desert Confirms PS5 Pro Upgrades
Will Powers, the studio director, has confirmed that Crimson Desert will look even more detailed thanks to the power of the PlayStation 5 Pro. The game is finished and ready to ship two months before its original release date. Powers recently told YouTuber Destin that the team is now focused on making sure the game runs well on all platforms. They’re specifically exploring how to take advantage of the PS5 Pro’s capabilities, and Powers has confirmed that the game will include enhancements for it. However, because optimization is still in progress, he can’t yet share a complete list of what PS5 Pro players can expect at launch.
Crimson Desert is launching on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on March 19th. The game’s visuals will vary slightly between platforms, as the developers are pushing the limits of modern graphics technology. Features like atmospheric scattering, volumetric clouds, and advanced lighting techniques (including ray marching and ray regeneration) are all part of the game, but haven’t been showcased in the gameplay videos released so far. According to a recent interview, the developers intentionally kept these features turned off in those videos.

While players will be able to adjust the graphics to fit their computer’s capabilities in Crimson Desert, the developers emphasize that even with the default settings, the game will look fantastic. As one developer explained, they want the game to be visually impressive right out of the box, without requiring extensive tweaking. They believe the game should be able to stand on its own merits in terms of graphics.
Pearl Abyss Wants Crimson Desert to be Accessible to All Players

However, the developers want to ensure a great experience for players on the standard PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and less powerful PCs, and they’re committed to making Crimson Desert accessible to as many fans as possible.

During the Q&A, someone asked if the Steam Deck could handle the large open world of Crimson Desert, which is said to be twice as big as The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. Powers explained they need to finish optimizing the game before they can say for sure, but he thinks the Steam Deck meets the minimum requirements to run it. With the game coming out soon, fans won’t have to wait long to see how it performs on different systems, including the new features planned for the PS5 Pro.
