After the very successful release of Crimson Desert earlier in March, Pearl Abyss CEO Heo Jin-Young announced the studio is exploring the possibility of bringing the game to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Although the game’s large open world and many features seemed to make a Switch version unlikely, Pearl Abyss has started investigating how it might be possible to bring Crimson Desert to Nintendo’s next-generation console. It is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Okay, so everyone was super hyped for Crimson Desert, alongside big titles like Grand Theft Auto 6 and Marvel’s Wolverine. Honestly, a lot of players, myself included, have found the controls a bit awkward and the story isn’t exactly blowing my mind. But, despite that, it’s been a huge win for Pearl Abyss! They just announced that Crimson Desert has already sold over 3 million copies in under a week, which is pretty crazy!
Crimson Desert May Get a Nintendo Switch 2 Release
Pearl Abyss is actively supporting Crimson Desert with updates to enhance the player experience. They’re also exploring bringing the game to the Nintendo Switch 2. CEO Heo Jin-Young recently revealed that research and development are underway, though he acknowledged the Switch 2’s less powerful hardware might require some compromises. He stated that the team is interested in the possibility and is investigating how to make it work (via Nintendo Everything).

Players who’ve tried Crimson Desert on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, or PC know that getting it to run on the Nintendo Switch 2 will be a major challenge. It will likely require reduced graphics quality and significant optimization. The game’s world is massive – twice the size of Skyrim and even larger than Red Dead Redemption 2. With its stunning visuals and extensive features, Crimson Desert is a very ambitious game. The Switch 2 is considerably less powerful than other modern consoles, particularly its processor, which could limit the number of characters on screen and the size of the open world, especially when played in handheld mode.
We’ve heard rumors about a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Crimson Desert before. A while back, GameStop briefly listed the game as “coming soon” for the Switch 2, back in mid-2025, before the game’s release date was moved to 2026. Ultimately, Crimson Desert launched earlier this year, but only on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It’s possible the GameStop listing was just an error.
When Crimson Desert first launched, opinions were divided. However, player ratings have steadily improved on both Steam and Metacritic. Currently, the game has a mostly positive score on Steam and an 8.6 rating on Metacritic. Pearl Abyss is working to address common issues, like awkward controls, though it’s clear this game won’t appeal to all players. While some criticize the story and characters, many others are enjoying the game’s vast open world and exploration opportunities.
