As a die-hard fan of open-world fantasy games with a penchant for intricate combat systems and immersive worlds, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming release of Crimson Desert by Pearl Abyss! Having spent countless hours in the sprawling landscapes of Black Desert Online, I can only imagine the level of detail and depth that will be brought to life in this new title.
Pearl Abyss, a South Korean game developer and publisher, has disclosed that their upcoming open-world fantasy title, “Crimson Desert,” will be launched towards the end of 2025. Before embarking on “Crimson Desert,” they previously released the widely played MMORPG, “Black Desert Online,” along with other games.
In Pearl Abyss’ debut solo venture, titled Crimson Desert, players will embark on an adventure alongside protagonist Kliff and his Greymanes allies as they traverse the expanse of the continent named Pywel. Recently, a teaser for this upcoming medieval game was unveiled, offering glimpses of in-game footage and also hinting at its potential release window.
The trailer for “Crimson Desert,” shown at this year’s just-concluded Game Awards, has confirmed that the game will be released towards the end of 2025. As announced by Pearl Abyss, the game plans to debut simultaneously worldwide on both PC and consoles. Initially, Sony aimed to make “Crimson Desert” an exclusive title, but ultimately, Pearl Abyss decided to publish the game independently. The developer explained to investors that this decision was more profitable since it already has global publishing capabilities and offices around the world. Typically, a game’s revenue under an exclusivity deal would allocate 30% towards platform fees, with the remaining 70% being split between the developer and publisher. However, Pearl Abyss opted out of such a deal.
When Will Crimson Desert be Released?
- Late 2025
It appears that Pearl Abyss’s choice to launch “Crimson Desert” across various platforms is proving fruitful, as per SteamDB’s data, the game has climbed into the top 200 most wished-for titles on Valve’s widely used distribution service. The game promises a captivating combat system and an immersive open world. Preliminary previews of “Crimson Desert,” developed using Pearl Abyss’s custom engine, BlackSpace, showcase it as a tough action-adventure game that many liken to “Dragon’s Dogma 2” by Capcom and the recent “God of War” installments.
2024’s The Game Awards drew in a record-breaking four million simultaneous viewers, according to Steam Charts, making it the most watched event in the show’s chronicles. Besides Crimson Desert, other anticipated titles like Elden Ring Nightreign from FromSoftware, CD Projekt Red’s Witcher 4, and a follow-up to the PlayStation 2 hit Okami were unveiled at this year’s extravaganza. The event on December 12 at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater was graced by notable figures from the gaming industry and celebrities such as Todd Howard (director of Bethesda Game Studios), Hideo Kojima (legendary Japanese developer), Sam Lake (creative director of Remedy Entertainment), Harrison Ford, and Snoop Dogg.
