Cronos: The New Dawn Sounds More Like Dead Space By the Day

Cronos: The New Dawn Sounds More Like Dead Space By the Day

As a longtime fan of survival horror games and someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the eerie worlds of titles like Silent Hill and Dead Space, I am genuinely excited about Bloober Team’s upcoming project, Cronos: The New Dawn. Having closely followed the studio’s evolution over the years, it feels like a natural progression for them to take on another iconic horror franchise, especially one as rich in sci-fi lore as Dead Space.

In a new development, Bloober Team, the Polish studio that recently captivated audiences with their exceptional take on Silent Hill 2, is set to unveil its next major venture titled Cronos: The New Dawn. Having demonstrated an affinity for emulating the Silent Hill series, and particularly its second installment, throughout their creative journey, it seemed fitting that they were chosen for the remake. However, with that chapter of Bloober’s journey complete, they are now venturing into another renowned horror franchise: Dead Space.

It’s not entirely accurate to claim that “Cronos: The New Dawn” is significantly different from “Dead Space,” but due to its sci-fi concept and survival horror gameplay, it brings Visceral Games’ iconic space series to mind. In “Cronos,” players will be challenged to traverse a post-apocalyptic Earth inhabited by peculiar humanoid monsters that bear resemblance to the Necromorphs from “Dead Space.” The game also features an intriguing time-travel element, which allows players to journey back to Poland during the 1980s. This time-travel mechanism seems to be a key component of the game’s narrative.

The dual-reality premise sounds oddly similar to The Medium , another horror game from Bloober Team.

Cronos Will Have Gameplay Similar to Resident Evil and Dead Space, Says Bloober

It’s not just gaming enthusiasts who are drawing comparisons between the game ‘Cronos’ and ‘Dead Space’. In an interview with MP1st, Game Director Wojciech Piejko explicitly mentioned ‘Dead Space’ and more recent entries of ‘Resident Evil’, stating that ‘Cronos’ will be influenced by their combat systems. However, he didn’t provide extensive details, only hinting at ‘Cronos’ borrowing the limb-cutting mechanic from ‘Dead Space’ and the light-based combat approach from ‘Alan Wake’.

In the game Dead Space, players must sever the limbs of their foes called Necromorphs; similarly, in Alan Wake, players employ a flashlight to subdue enemies; as for Cronos, you’ll have to stay tuned to discover what you’ll need to do.

As a dedicated fan, I find Piejko’s statements intriguingly ambiguous and thought-provoking. It’s essential to remember these comments are part of a broader discussion about the delicate balance in survival horror games like Cronos, focusing on gameplay, atmosphere, and storytelling. While it’s possible that Cronos could incorporate a literal or direct evolution of Dead Space’s limb-cutting mechanic, I suspect Piejko might be referring to something more encompassing. He could be hinting at an iconic, distinctive combat mechanism designed to amplify fear in the game, rather than just a straight-forward replication of a previous title’s feature.

Cronos: The New Dawn Learning From Dead Space Can Only Be a Good Thing

Audience members eagerly anticipate the outcome of “Cronos: The New Dawn”. Over time, Bloober Team has faced criticism for their handling of certain topics and what some consider sparse game design. However, “Silent Hill 2” is seen as a pivotal moment by even the CEO of Bloober Team. This is positive, but it also means that expectations for “Cronos” are significantly higher. Since it’s an original IP, it will also be expected to offer something fresh and groundbreaking, surpassing the remake of “Silent Hill 2”.

Instead of relying on being similar to “Dead Space” for its reputation, much like it couldn’t rely on being similar to “Silent Hill,” it appears that taking inspiration from one of the greatest science-fiction survival horror games is a logical choice. To clarify, “Dead Space” was heavily influenced by “Resident Evil 4,” and it would be hard for anyone to claim it was an exact copy of Capcom’s 2005 classic. Here’s hoping that the same dynamic exists between “Cronos” and “Dead Space.
