Hunter x Hunter is a well-known manga that first became an anime in 1999. A second, more popular anime series produced by Studio Madhouse aired in 2011 and quickly became a favorite among fans. Unfortunately, it’s being removed from Crunchyroll today, which has surprised and disappointed many viewers.
The Reason Hunter x Hunter Left the Streaming Platform
Fans were surprised to learn today that the popular anime series Hunter x Hunter is leaving Crunchyroll, the world’s biggest streaming service for anime. The series has been available on Crunchyroll for several years, making the removal a disappointment for many viewers who are now questioning the reason behind the change.
Hunter X Hunter is likely being removed from Crunchyroll because its licensing agreement has ended. Crunchyroll has chosen not to renew the license, meaning the anime will no longer be available on their service. It’s uncertain if they’ll renew the license in the future, so fans will need to find a different platform to continue watching Hunter X Hunter.
The Alternate Homes To Stream Togashi’s Masterpiece
Now that Hunter x Hunter has left Crunchyroll, many fans are looking for other legal ways to watch the show. Currently, there are two main options: Netflix, which has all the episodes available, and Hulu, another popular streaming service that carries the series.
Fans can watch Hunter x Hunter on streaming services, but they can also buy Blu-rays. Owning the Blu-rays means you’ll always have the series, without worrying about it being removed from streaming platforms.
Assessing The Possibility Of A Dark Continent Adaptation
The Hunter x Hunter anime finished airing in 2014, and fans have been eagerly awaiting its return for over a decade. Although the anime ended, the manga continued, and has progressed significantly. However, the manga hasn’t finished a complete story arc since 2014, meaning an anime adaptation of the next arc – the Succession Contest, which sets up the journey to the Dark Continent – is unlikely to happen soon. For the anime to continue, the author, Togashi, needs to finish this arc in the manga first, and that could still take several years.
Yoshihiro Togashi Makes Slow Progress With The Manga
The Hunter x Hunter anime ended without a proper conclusion because of problems with the original manga. Its creator, Yoshihiro Togashi, has ongoing health issues, which have significantly slowed down the manga’s progress. Getting just ten new chapters a year would be great, but there’s no regular release schedule. Because of these challenges, Togashi hasn’t been able to finish any story arcs since the end of the Chairman Association arc.
Togashi is currently making good progress on the next set of Hunter x Hunter chapters. Sources say this batch could be the largest in ten years, potentially around 20 chapters. While there’s no confirmed release date, they’re expected sometime in 2026. Though progress has been slow, the story is moving forward, and fans may see the end of the Succession Contest arc within the next four years, potentially leading to a new anime season.
Hunter x Hunter is available to watch in its entirety on Hulu and Netflix at the moment.
