Over time, Pokemon has grown in many ways, not just by introducing brand-new creatures, but also by adding numerous new forms and evolutions. Transformations such as Gigantamax, Mega Evolutions, and Terastallization are examples of temporary changes, while some Pokemon have even taken on completely different forms altogether, like the case of Gimmighoul where two Pokemon of the same species can vary significantly.

In a creative twist, Pokemon enthusiast Matratzfratz has drawn inspiration from Gimmighoul and reimagined Crustle in a unique way. This new design is referred to as Crustle’s Chest Form, where the rock on its back is transformed into a weathered treasure chest. Instead of being like Gimmighoul, this treasure chest appears to be a worn-out loot box. To add a pirate touch, Crustl’s claws have been modified to resemble hook-like pincers. Matratzfratz also shared a sketch of Dwebble in its unevolved stage, which they’ve called the “Hadal Form”. This version seems to be inhabiting an old diver’s helmet. The artist has altered Crustle’s type to Bug/Water, and points out that its treasure chest captures greedy divers, gradually breaking them down over time. Although it may sound unsettling, this idea is not too far-fetched for a Pokemon entry description.

Other players have given the artist praise along with ideas and advice regarding Crustle, a character in question. One enthusiast suggested that Crustle doesn’t strictly need to be a Water-type if it’s supposed to dwell in the sea; instead, it could be classified as a Bug or Grass-type. Another participant brought up an interesting point, noting that this depiction of Crustle resembles a Mimic creature, a common RPG monster that disguises itself as treasure chests before attacking players who get too close. For those not familiar, Mimics are creatures that imitate treasure chests and attack when someone gets too near. The idea of encountering and being trapped by a Mimic underwater increases the sense of danger.
