‘Crysis Next’ Battle Royale Gameplay Leaks Online, But Crytek Shuts It Down

As a gamer who’s been around since the dawn of time (or at least the Crysis era), it’s always heartbreaking to see a game with such potential slip through our fingers like sand in an hourglass. Crysis Next, a battle royale set in the iconic Crysis universe, was shaping up to be a game-changer, and then… poof! Like the nanosuit’s invisibility mode, it vanished into thin air.

The game in question, known as “Crysis Next,” was initially being developed as a free-to-play multiplayer battle royale shooter within the universe of Crysis. Intended primarily for third-person gameplay, it had been under development for years before Crytek apparently and quietly halted its production. In 2020, whispers about a Crysis battle royale game began to circulate, but this is one of the first times we’ve seen leaked footage of the gameplay.

Developer Crytek has been sending removal notices to those posting and circulating the content online.

What Might Have Been

The gameplay videos featuring Crysis Next, the abandoned battle royale project, offer a sneak peek into what appears to be an early-stage multiplayer environment during its development process.

1. Crytek never officially confirmed it, but before they could, Crysis 4 was already announced. It’s been about two years since we learned a new Crysis game is on the way, and all we’ve received so far is a brief teaser. This has left fans speculating about the status of the much-anticipated sequel.

Over ten years have passed since Crysis 3 was first released, and gamers are eagerly anticipating further escapades with their nanotech-equipped characters.

Regrettably, the game Crysis Next, which was set to capitalize on the surge of battle royale games, will not be released. With potential for players to tailor and command a formidable nanosuit, and choose among three roles – Frontliner, Tactician, or Flanker – it seemed destined to offer an exhilarating power-driven battle royale experience across expansive maps. However, these plans are largely speculative at this point.

It’s not known when Crysis Next was cancelled, we just know that it was.
