Crystal Dynamics has announced another round of layoffs in 2025, marking the third time this year. The company says these cuts are part of a necessary restructuring.
Crystal Dynamics has a long history of creating beloved games, including the Legacy of Kain and Tomb Raider series. However, the studio has faced challenges recently. Their 2020 game, Marvel’s Avengers, didn’t perform well, and their attempt to reboot Perfect Dark for Xbox was cancelled. Now, after already letting go of many employees, Crystal Dynamics has announced another round of layoffs, impacting 30 workers.
Crystal Dynamics Lays Off Staff for a Third Time This Year

Crystal Dynamics announced another round of layoffs in a recent LinkedIn post. Approximately 30 employees are affected, though the specific departments haven’t been revealed. This is the third time the company has reduced its workforce, following layoffs in March (17 employees) and in August after the cancellation of Perfect Dark, the number of which was not disclosed.
Crystal Dynamics announced today that it is restructuring its studios and teams, which unfortunately means letting go of nearly 30 employees across different departments and projects. The company expressed deep gratitude for the contributions of those affected, acknowledging their talent and dedication, and stated they will provide support during this transition as they prepare for future projects.
Crystal Dynamics has once again confirmed that a new Tomb Raider game is still being made. They explained that recent difficult decisions were made to ensure the continued development of the game and to allow the studio to create future titles. These changes are a response to the evolving game industry and are meant to position them for long-term success.
It’s honestly been rough watching the gaming industry lately. Layoffs seem to happen all the time, but the past few years have been especially bad. We’ve seen whole studios like Monolith Productions just close down, and projects like Wonder Woman and Everwild completely cancelled. It’s really tough to see, and I’m hoping everyone affected finds a great new opportunity soon. I’m sending them all the best as they figure things out.
