In a post on Twitter/X, the studio acknowledged the challenging market conditions that have affected our industry for several years now. Unfortunately, it has become necessary to reduce our workforce by approximately 15%, which equates to around 60 employees. This impact will be felt across development teams and support services.
The studio announced that they’ve temporarily paused work on the next Crysis game, scheduled for Q3 2024, and instead are transferring developers to Hunt: Showdown 1896, a project still in development. Due to financial constraints, Crytek must adjust its operations. In other words, layoffs are necessary for the company’s survival. The affected employees will receive severance packages and career assistance services, as stated by the studio.
Crytek concludes by expressing their confidence in the company’s future, emphasizing that Hunt: Showdown 1896 is a robust gaming service they are dedicated to maintaining. They plan to enrich and develop Hunt: Showdown 1896 further with high-quality content, and will continue to implement strategies using their engine CRYENGINE.
Although Crytek’s CryEngine may not have the same level of popularity as Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, it remains a reliable tool for creating quality video games. Notably, the most recent game produced with it is “Warhorse”.
Studios’ Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, which the company noted in a tweet earlier this month.
“From everyone at Crytek, we extend a huge congratulations to Warhorse Studios
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to be part of the global community captivated by Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2! It’s awe-inspiring to witness such an exceptional game, crafted with CRYENGINE, taking the world by storm. The Warhorse team has truly outdone themselves, pushing the limits of immersive narratives, historical accuracy, and graphic excellence – all fueled by CRYENGINE’s technology. I can’t wait to dive back into this captivating world!
According to Crytek’s announcement about job cuts, it seems that news about Crysis 4 is likely not coming up immediately, so we might need to hold off on any expectations for now, and put the 2022 announcement trailer aside temporarily.
