Culinary Sci-Fi Action RPG ‘Space Chef’ Gets a Release Date [EXCLUSIVE]

Space Chef will be available starting October 28, Game Rant has discovered. The release date for this unusual action RPG was finalized after more than five years since Space Chef was first revealed.

Created by Swedish studio BlueGooGames, Space Chef earned more than $53,000 on Kickstarter over a month, finishing in mid-November 2021. Although it looks like a cartoon, it’s actually a complex action role-playing game set in the future, where you manage your own restaurant in space.

Space Chef Confirms October 28 Release Date in New Gameplay Trailer

After a long development process, Space Chef is officially launching on October 28. Game Rant is excited to exclusively share the latest trailer, which details when the action RPG will be released. The trailer, which is just over a minute long, also gives players another glimpse at the unique “hunt, cook, deliver” gameplay that Space Chef offers.

I’m really excited about BlueGooGames’ new game! Basically, you’ll be traveling to planets that are created on the fly, and you’ll need to gather ingredients – everything from plants to creatures! Then, you get to *cook* with them! They’re promising over 140 different dishes you can make. The whole goal is to build up your business – you start with just delivering food, but if you can impress your customers with some amazing and unique food, you can turn it into a proper space restaurant. What’s really cool is that they built Space Chef to be super replayable. They say every time you play, the experience will be different – it won’t be the same run twice, or even very similar!

I recently read a 2021 interview with the founders of BlueGooGames, Niclas Marie and Tobias Tranell, over at Game Rant. They explained that they designed each area in Space Chef like a really interesting puzzle. Basically, you have to figure out how to deal with the local wildlife – whether you can tame them, fight them, or maybe even both! They launched with over 180 creatures, so learning about all of them is going to take a while, which is awesome. This extends to the cooking too; Space Chef isn’t just about meat, it’s a full-on culinary ARPG with everything from meaty dishes to vegan and vegetarian options. And you even get to control things like your opening hours and really micromanage your restaurant. It sounds like there’s a lot to sink your teeth into!

Space Chef Coming to Both PC and Consoles

The game Space Chef will launch on October 28th across all platforms – that includes PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. We haven’t announced the price just yet. If you’re a PC gamer, you can get a taste of the gameplay right now by downloading the Space Chef demo from Steam, and you can also add it to your wishlist there. The game is being published by Kwalee, a UK-based company known for releasing indie games. Space Chef will be Kwalee’s fourth game released this year, following the action-packed Hordes of Hunger, the city-building game Town to City, and the GTA-inspired police game The Precinct.
