Cyberpunk 2077 Devs Claim Nintendo’s Audience “Different” Compared Before

Summary

  • CD Projekt RED sees a shift in the Nintendo audience, now seeking mature titles like Cyberpunk 2077.
  • Nintendo Switch 2 will feature diverse third-party titles, including Elden Ring, Final Fantasy, and more.
  • Cyberpunk 2077 will launch on the Switch 2 alongside the console’s release on June 5.

Last month, when the Nintendo Switch 2 was unveiled, it wasn’t a shock to see the familiar faces of classic Nintendo titles, led by none other than Mario and his crew.

It was surprising to see mature third-party games such as Cyberpunk 2077 being announced, given that they don’t appear to align with the demographic Nintendo usually targets.

CD Projekt RED Thinks The Nintendo Audience Is Now Different From Years Past

As per reports from Jan Rosner, the Vice President of Business Development at CD Projekt RED (through The Game Business), it appears that Nintendo’s fan base has expanded significantly compared to what it was in previous years.

Nintendo’s fanbase is expanding and becoming more diverse compared to just a few years ago, and Nintendo seems to be acknowledging this shift. This is evident in the variety of games announced for the Switch 2, some of which might not traditionally be associated with Nintendo. However, we’ve also enjoyed playing The Witcher 3 on the original Switch. It’s worth noting that there’s a demand for large-scale AAA RPGs, typically released on PC and other consoles, but it looks like Nintendo is catering to this interest as well.

It’s worth mentioning that CD Projekt RED previously launched The Witcher 3 on the Nintendo Switch, and they appear content with how it runs, despite lacking specific performance data to share.

According to Rosner, we had discussions a few years ago about whether there would be interest in a game like this on Nintendo Switch. At that time, The Witcher 3 was one of the initial games of its kind to appear on Switch, serving as an example that there is indeed a demand for such games on this platform. In essence, Rosner suggests that the Switch is not just about exclusive first-party titles but also has room for popular third-party games like The Witcher 3.

Besides Cyberpunk 2077, a few other mature games set for release on the Switch 2 include Elden Ring, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, Street Fighter 6, Star Wars Outlaws, Borderlands 4, and Hitman. Here’s to wishing that even more action-packed and mature titles will find their way onto the Switch 2 in the future.

I mean, who wouldn’t want to pull off headshots after racing around in Mario Kart, right?

On June 5, when the Switch 2 officially hits the market, you’ll be able to play Cyberpunk 2077 simultaneously. For insights into the difficulties faced by CD Projekt RED in creating the game for Nintendo’s new console, check out this article.
