Cyberpunk 2077 Fans, Don’t Miss MindsEye!

Cyberpunk 2077, initially criticized for technical issues upon release in 2020, stands unique in the gaming world due to its distinct cyberpunk theme. While there are many sci-fi games available, few can boast a similar genre as Cyberpunk 2077 – the cyberpunk subgenre is relatively rare. Remarkably, the number of AAA action-adventure games set in neon-lit cities reminiscent of Blade Runner is surprisingly sparse. The dystopian sci-fi setting of Night City, found within Cyberpunk 2077, offers a rare glimpse into a vivid, characterful virtual city seldom seen in video games. This fictional Californian metropolis feels alive and breathing, with its own unique identity.

For gamers eagerly seeking more dystopian, sci-fi experiences, there’s no need to lose hope! The Polish game developer CD Projekt Red is in the process of creating a follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Project Orion. However, it’s important to note that this game is still several years away from release. At present, CD Projekt Red is engrossed in the development of The Witcher 4, which has only recently been announced. Given that The Witcher 4 might not debut until as late as 2026, it’s highly likely that Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel may not appear during this console generation. Fortunately, a new game from a former Grand Theft Auto developer could potentially tide over impatient fans of the eagerly awaited Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.

MindsEye Seems to Share a Lot in Common With Cyberpunk 2077

MindsEye is a New Sci-Fi Game from Ex-GTA Developer Leslie Benzies

A fresh game developer named Rocket Boy Scotland unveiled itself at Sony’s latest PlayStation State of Play event, revealing its debut title – MindsEye. This upcoming game is being published by IO Interactive, known for hit series like Hitman and Kane & Lynch, and is being led by Leslie Benzies, a veteran game designer who previously presided over Rockstar North and contributed significantly to the development of multiple acclaimed Grand Theft Auto games from GTA 3 through to GTA 5.

In simpler terms, “MindsEye” is an action game where you play from a third-person perspective in a future version of America. While it’s less fantastical than “Cyberpunk 2077”, it still falls into the sci-fi category. Similar to Night City, the world of MindsEye brims with murderous robots, cyborgs, advanced experiments, and neural implant technology. The game tackles similar themes as Cyberpunk 2077, such as human greed, the influence of technology on everyday life, the overlap between corporations and governments, the danger of artificial intelligence, etc.

In simpler terms, “MindsEye” is categorized as an action-adventure thriller by Build a Rocket Boy. The cinematic trailer for this game seems to fit that description perfectly. The game tells the story of Jacob Diaz, a soldier tormented by memories of a botched undercover operation. Similar to V from “Cyberpunk 2077,” Diaz possesses a brain implant called MindsEye. Unlike V’s implant, however, the MindsEye does not allow for interaction with a Keanu Reeves hologram. Instead, this device holds cryptic fragments of Diaz’s past memories.

MindsEye is Going to Be Part of a Game Platform Called Everywhere

In terms of gameplay, MindsEye appears to be an engaging blend of elements from Cyberpunk 2077 and Grand Theft Auto. As suggested in the game’s trailer, it offers high-speed chases, third-person shooting scenes with cover mechanics, and a mysterious drone companion. Furthermore, MindsEye is part of an extensive gaming platform called Everywhere, developed by Build a Rocket Boy. Based on what we know about it, Everywhere appears to be similar to more realistic versions of platforms like Roblox or Fortnite, as it includes multiple games within a single platform. It remains unclear if Everywhere will debut simultaneously with MindsEye, or how the games will be incorporated into it, but these details will be revealed when Build a Rocket Boy’s action-adventure game is set to launch in summer 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
