As a seasoned gamer with years of immersion in the sprawling cybernetic metropolis of Night City, I can confidently say that the prospect of exploring the enigmatic Crystal Palace in Project Orion is as tantalizing as a neon-lit, chrome-plated dream. The tantalizing glimpse we got of it in Cyberpunk 2077’s Path to Glory ending left me yearning for more, like a cybernetic cowboy pining for the next fix of pixelated, high-octane action.
Since facing some challenges during its debut in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 has made significant strides forward. The release of the extensive 2.0 update last year and the addition of the Phantom Liberty DLC have helped it regain its footing. Now, the game is receiving largely positive feedback and review scores. With all planned features now implemented, players can fully immerse themselves in the captivating storylines and expansive open-world of Night City without any restrictions.
A sequel to “Cyberpunk 2077,” titled Project Orion, has been confirmed and is now in its early stages of development. At this point, we don’t have many details about its direction or storyline. However, CD Projekt Red will need to take several factors into account to make the sequel better while maintaining its connection to the already established world. One possibility could be to delve deeper into a location hinted at in one of the endings but with plenty of room for expansion – The Crystal Palace. Project Orion might benefit from exploring the mysterious grandeur of this exotic location.
Project Orion Needs to Pull the Trigger on Cyberpunk 2077’s Crystal Palace
Cyberpunk 2077’s Crystal Palace
Floating in space between the Moon and Earth, The Crystal Palace serves as a blend of Las Vegas and a private community. Offering a variety of casinos and indulgent high-end activities alongside luxurious apartments for the affluent and influential characters from the world of Cyberpunk 2077, including figures from powerful organizations like Arasaka Corporation, this Palace plays a significant role in the game’s lore. It is suggested that it houses dangerous secrets, secretive dealings, and frequent intrigues. The Crystal Palace embodies many of the core themes of the game with its extravagance and opulence set against the grimy, violent culture prevalent on Night City’s streets.
As a die-hard fan, I found myself slipping into The Crystal Palace in Cyberpunk 2077’s Path of Glory ending, executing an expertly orchestrated burglary that cemented my status as a Night City icon. The story unfolded predominantly through dialogue and cutscenes during the closing acts, but there were brief instances where I was given control to contribute to the heist setup. Despite not being able to fully immerse myself in the interior of the Palace, just knowing it existed ignited a burning desire to explore its mysteries further.
The scrapped DLC for Cyberpunk 2077, which was rumored to take place on the Moon, might hint at and stimulate Project Orion to incorporate additional lunar and off-world settings.
How Project Orion Could Make Great Use of Cyberpunk 2077’s Crystal Palace
Unverified reports hint that Project Orion could be growing beyond our planet, potentially transporting participants to diverse destinations across the cosmos. If this is true, The Crystal Palace would likely be among the locations incorporated, offering an exciting series of missions reminiscent of V’s heist. These missions could lead players on a journey through various space installations, culminating in a challenging quest at The Crystal Palace. This captivating environment might only be temporary, but it could still offer a memorable experience, and players may even cross paths with influential figures and notable NPCs while exploring the casino in the sky.
1. The stunning creation of Night City offers a hint of how The Crystal Palace could look in the upcoming sequel, presumably on advanced gaming systems. Moreover, if CD Projekt Red chooses to adopt any of the endings from Cyberpunk 2077 into the canon, it might impact how deeply The Crystal Palace is integrated into the overarching storyline. However, whether Project Orion opts for a new protagonist or other perspectives, The Crystal Palace’s captivating setting and abundant history make it ripe for exploration as a central and expansive location in the sequel. Hopefully, the studio recognizes this potential and brings it to life in the follow-up game.
