On April 2nd, when all details about the Nintendo Switch 2 were unveiled, one of the most significant third-party game announcements was made by CD Projekt Red as they confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 would be playable on the console. Now, only a day later, we have more information about what players on the new Nintendo Switch 2 can anticipate from the game in terms of its features.
As stated by Jan Rosner, the studio’s vice president of business development, the “Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition” will retail for $70 upon its launch on June 5. Notably, if you opt for the physical version of the game, it will be fully loaded onto the cartridge for the Switch 2.
Rosner mentioned that the game can be obtained through two methods: physically on a 64GB game cartridge, which includes both the base game and its expansions without needing any downloads, or digitally via the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch 2 for those who prefer digital distribution.
The announcement that the game is featured on a tangible card follows Nintendo’s disclosure that not every physical game for their system contains the actual game. Instead, these copies serve as license keys enabling you to download and play the game on your console.
There has been curiosity about the game’s performance given it is designed for the Switch 2. Jason Schreier from Bloomberg, after playing the game on the system, shared some insights regarding this aspect.
On a recent social media post, Schreier shared that Cyberpunk 2077 managed to run at 40 frames per second (FPS) with the system docked in performance mode. However, he didn’t specify the frame rate for handheld play.
We’ve tried contacting CD Projekt Red for additional information about the game’s console performance. If we get a reply, we’ll update this article accordingly.
