Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Project Orion Will Include ‘Another City’

The creator of the Cyberpunk series, Mike Pondsmith, has hinted at the location for the follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077.

At the Digital Dragons gaming conference in Krakow, Poland, Pondsmith held a conversation with Michal Manka from Find Your Next Game by GameStar. They chatted about the Cyberpunk series, the progress of Cyberpunk 2077, and even hinted at the direction of the series with the upcoming sequel, which is currently known as Project Orion.

As a gaming enthusiast, I must admit that my knowledge about Orion remains scant, with only a handful of tidbits developers have given us thus far.

In his talk at Digital Dragons (starting approximately at 3:06 in Pondsmith’s segment), he hinted that the game may venture beyond the borders of Night City, perhaps even traveling across the country.

‘It Feels More Like Chicago Gone Wrong’

Towards the conclusion of the interview, approximately at the 3 hours, 45 minutes, and 45 seconds mark, Pondsmith casually brings up Project Orion. It appears as though he inadvertently disclosed information about another city during this segment.

He mentions that he had an extended conversation with someone knowledgeable about the environment, and this person shared some details about a fresh location, which happens to be in Orion. However, he didn’t reveal any further specifics because there’s another city we plan to visit as well.

Night City remains, yet gazing upon it, I nodded in agreement, sensing the ambiance you intended, and indeed, it fits perfectly. It’s not a replica of Blade Runner; instead, it appears as if Chicago has succumbed to chaos.

It’s intriguing that he brought up Chicago particularly, given that some Reddit users have pointed out advertisements within the game Cyberpunk 2077 suggesting a three-hour trip between Night City and Chicago, which is anticipated for 2080.

It seems as though he’s hinting that both Night City and the newly introduced city might become playable destinations, potentially through a rapid transit connection with Chicago in the near future.

Choosing Chicago might seem unlikely, given it’s over 2000 miles from Night City, situated between Los Angeles and San Francisco on California’s Morro Bay. However, this subtle in-game adination might just provide a plausible explanation.

Indeed, speculations abound regarding the location of Project Orion, and given its enigmatic nature, we might not learn about its true identity for quite some time. So, it’s hard to predict what twists and turns this mystery might take as the years unfold.
