Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 To Take Fans Back To Night City

Studio Trigger is coming back to Night City, and for those eager Cyberpunk 2077 fans who can’t get enough, there’s more good news! During the behind-the-scenes panel at Anime Expo for “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,” Studio Trigger and CD Projekt RED unveiled “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2” – a brand new anime series set in Night City, featuring an entirely different set of characters.

To date, only the program’s logo and promotional artwork have been displayed, along with a live-streamed event where these were unveiled.

Similar to the initial Edgerunners series, its follow-up is planned for streaming on Netflix; however, a specific release date has yet to be disclosed.

A ‘Chronicle Of Redemption And Revenge’

At the panel, Bartosz Sztybor, the original storywriter and producer of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, who’s coming back to these positions for the sequel, joined others in unveiling the upcoming series.

David’s tale may have concluded, but there are still many secrets waiting to be uncovered in Night City. Having Trigger Studios on board for this journey fills us at CD Projekt RED with immense excitement as we delve into an authentic, gritty narrative about redemption and vengeance – a departure from anything we’ve previously created. – Bartosz Sztybor

It’s true that Studio Trigger is handling the animation for the new series, but unfortunately, the esteemed director Hiroyuki Imaishi won’t be back to oversee its direction.

The responsibility will be handed over to Kai Ikarashi, who has a history of working on projects such as Edgerunners, SSSS.Gridman, and Promare (directed by Imaishi) as an animation director and key animator. Rest assured, the project is still in capable hands.

Additionally, we’ll see the return of the main character designer Kanno Ichigo and screenplay writer Masahiko Otsuka for the upcoming sequel.

or simply:

Once again, we’ll have Kanno Ichigo as our lead character designer and Masahiko Otsuka handling the script in the sequel.

1. Cyberpunk 2077 continues to thrive, with a high-quality Nintendo Switch 2 version on the horizon and the substantial 2.3 update arriving soon, as well as the announcement that production for the sequel has begun. For those eagerly anticipating more, Lucy is set to join Guilty Gear Strive next.

As an ardent enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement as Studio Trigger and CD Projekt RED prepare to unveil a sneak peek of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 tonight, exclusively at Anime Expo. For now, all we have is the tantalizing poster art to fuel our speculations.
