CYGNI: All Guns Blazing review

As a seasoned space combat veteran who’s weathered countless cosmic storms and alien invasions, CYGNI: All Guns Blazing has undeniably left me spellbound! This game is like a symphony of chaos, with its relentless barrage of enemy fire that sends your adrenaline soaring. It’s not just a shoot-em-up; it’s a heart-pounding rollercoaster ride through the cosmos!

The enchanting aspect of CYGNI: All Guns Blazing lies in its relentless gameplay style within shoot-em-ups. Swarms of alien vessels continuously attack you across the brief yet turbulent stages. Though chances to catch your breath are scarce, the sensory overload during each moment spent in the cockpit is nothing less than divine. It may not revolutionize the genre, but it certainly brings back memories of why such games can be so electrifying, even when death seems imminent at any given second.

In a relentless battle against an advanced alien race with biomechanical characteristics, you stand as one of the few remaining defenders of humanity. Each level presents itself as a perilous infiltration into enemy lines, with ships attacking from all directions. Your tasks are straightforward: move, shoot, and survive. Despite its brevity, the main campaign offers an immersive and thrilling experience that lasts until the very end. What’s remarkable is how KeelWorks manages to keep things engaging right up until the finish line. While the story mode might be brief, the game’s replay value is virtually limitless.

In CYGNI: All Guns Blazing, there are varying levels of challenge designed to push your skills to the limit. As you progress, you’ll earn badges as incentives, providing constant goals to strive for. Additionally, you can upgrade your spaceship, unlocking new abilities and enhancing existing ones. The game also offers a cooperative mode, allowing you to play with a friend, adding an extra dimension of excitement as you both maneuver simultaneously across the screen. Notably, CYGNI: All Guns Blazing boasts a highly responsive control system for smooth gaming experience.

In the game CYGNI: All Guns Blazing, as you engage enemy ships hovering above, don’t hesitate to target ground vehicles that frequently launch explosives towards you from below. The sky is always filled with threats trying to bring you down, but maintaining control and focus over your ship will ensure your survival. Conserving energy is crucial in this game; destroying specific enemies rewards you with resources that maintain your weaponry and shields.

There’s a single mechanic that provides a straightforward yet powerful approach to gameplay. By using the shoulder buttons, you can direct your energy into two main areas: either reinforcing your spaceship for stronger shielding or enhancing the power of your weapons. This tactical move can be executed at any given moment, and figuring out the optimal moments to do so can greatly aid your ship by providing additional protection as well as boosting the impact of your shots, particularly when engaging with one of CYGNI’s formidable bosses.

While the enemy can come in all shapes and sizes, the bosses are pretty special. Gargantuan beings with a range of weapons and offensive strategies make these encounters both terrifying and intense. One boss had huge mechanical tentacles. Another had walls of rocks that acted as a barrier. My favourite was protected by canons strapped to the side of a huge laser beam that could have easily blown Alderaan out of the sky. Each one has a percentage bar that shrinks from 100 to 0, and as it counts down, fights always get more stressful; you just have to hold your nerve until they’re defeated.

CYGNI: All Guns Blazing is visually stunning. The design of its levels and some of its cutscenes are particularly impressive, making it look fantastic. Each level has short cutscenes that emphasize the gravity of humanity’s last chance. One scene that remains memorable for me is when a tentacle boss suddenly appeared as a shadow during a storm over one of humanity’s bases. The music in this game is epic, offering a full orchestral soundtrack throughout the intense war. However, I wish there were more levels and the campaign was a bit longer.

If you’re seeking a classic shooting game that holds its own against modern titles, CYGNI: All Guns Blazing is an excellent choice. It boasts exciting gameplay and stunning graphics, offering a rich experience. I only wish the campaign was longer because I found myself deeply engrossed in the narrative, and I loved the cutscenes. The ground combat isn’t as exhilarating, and it can be challenging to switch between destroying enemies on the ground and dodging attacks from above. Despite these minor drawbacks, it’s an outstanding shooter that delivers everything you’d expect from this genre.
