Dandadan: What to Expect from Season 2 (According to the Manga)

Summary

  • Season 2 of Dandadan will likely cover the Cursed House, Evil Eye, and Kaiju arcs.
  • The Cursed House Arc features a psychotic family, the Tsuchinoko, and the Evil Eye yokai.
  • The Evil Eye Arc focuses on Jiji trying to get a hold of the yokai inside him with the help of Momo and the others.

As a seasoned anime enthusiast who has witnessed countless stories unfold across various dimensions and realms, I must admit that “Dandadan” has piqued my curiosity like no other. The intricate blend of humor, action, and the supernatural makes it an engaging watch, much like a delectable meal where each ingredient complements the others to create a satisfying whole.

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Dandadan, Episode 12, “Let’s Go to the Cursed House”, now streaming on Crunchyroll.

With the conclusion of season 1 of “Dandadan”, enthusiasts are already eagerly anticipating season 2, as a trailer has been unveiled alongside its projected release date in July 2025. The escapades of Momo and Okarun involving lewd aliens and yokai with tragic pasts are now just getting started.

It’s challenging to predict exactly which parts of the Dandadan story season 2 will explore due to the varying length of upcoming arcs. However, given that season 1 had 12 episodes and followed three arcs, it’s plausible that season 2 could continue in a similar fashion, wrapping up the Cursed House, Evil Eye, and Kaiju arcs before concluding. Alternatively, if season 2 is intended to cover the same number of manga chapters as season 1, then it would only last until the start of the Kaiju Arc.

Cursed House Arc

The Mystery Behind Jiji’s Home Continues

In simpler terms, the final two episodes from Season 1 of Dandadan served as an introduction to the “Cursed House Arc” and set up events for future action and chaos. To summarize the end of Season 1, Momo was attacked by a group of strange old men at the hot springs while Okarun and Jiji discovered a room full of talismans in Jiji’s house. With this setup, we can expect an immediate start to Season 2 with its high-energy plot unfolding.

From here on, here’s what you may encounter: If you guessed that a deranged family performs grisly human sacrifices to appease a legendary creature called the Tsuchinoko in order to keep a nearby volcano from exploding, then you are correct. This situation will lead Momo, Okarun, and Jiji to face off against the Tsuchinoko, which turns out to be a colossal, carnivorous worm-like monster.

In this region, they once revered a massive snake deity. It was thought that when this volcano-dwelling serpent felt hungry, it would cause the volcano to explode. To pacify the serpent’s hunger, people from the village would offer one of their own children during those times. This is what the priest explained to Momo about the Tsuchinoko belief.

It’s quite astonishing, I must admit. You might recall that they initially sought refuge in Jiji’s house due to a sinister presence lurking around. Unbelievably, this ominous entity was none other than the Evil Eye, a yokai born from a past human sacrifice, whose purpose is to annihilate mankind. This spirit managed to seize control over Jiji, transforming him into the form depicted in the trailer for season 2 of Dandadan. To make matters even more bizarre, it seems that the belief that periodic human sacrifices prevented the volcano from erupting was indeed accurate. This means Momo and Okarun now face three significant perils simultaneously.

The “Cursed House” storyline will be the most extensive yet in our manga, encompassing a whopping 23 chapters. In contrast, the longest arc previously was the “Serpo Arc,” which consists of just 10 chapters, barely one-quarter the length of the current storyline. Keep in mind that the number of chapters in the manga doesn’t necessarily correspond to its duration in the anime. For example, the “Turbo Granny” arc, which has only 8 chapters in the manga, was stretched over 5 episodes in the anime, whereas the “Serpo Arc” ran for merely 3 episodes. However, this discrepancy might be due to the fact that “Turbo Granny” is the first arc in the series, and the anime chose to spend more time on world-building to set the stage.

Evil Eye Arc

The past Arc’s Repercussions

After the conclusion of the Haunted House Saga, the high school students mostly make it back to the Ayase residence securely, yet Jiji remains host to a murderous yokai. Consequently, the narrative primarily revolves around Momo, Okarun, and their companions endeavoring to liberate Jiji from the Malevolent Gaze. However, as is customary in Dandadan, our protagonists encounter more than one preposterous danger during this storyline. In addition, look forward to grotesque portrayals of classical musicians and an extraterrestrial home renovator. So, it’s just another day in the life of Dandadan.

Compared to the Cursed House Arc, The Evil Eye Arc is significantly smaller in length, yet it outstretches any of the arcs seen during season 1, spanning across a total of twelve chapters.

Kaiju Arc

Momo and Aira Get More Competition

In Dandadan’s Kaiju storyline, we’ll see the arrival of two much-anticipated characters, Kinta and Bamora. Following the conclusion of two previous arcs, Momo and Okarun seem to have a promising clue about the latter’s lost nut, hinted at being in a spooky apartment building. Yet, Okarun’s fellow student, Kinta Sakata, tags along, curious about Okarun’s knack for charisma with girls, causing quite a stir. This arc will showcase an epic Kaiju battle between a monstrous creature and a colossal robot. Additionally, we’ll meet a sweet alien girl named Bamora who unexpectedly proposes marriage to Okarun! Why not, indeed?

In comparison to the other two arcs, the Kaiju Arc is quite compact, spanning just 11 chapters. If Season 2 follows the same chapter count as Season 1, it could potentially conclude around the start of this arc.

I’m thrilled to share that you can now find “Dandadan” streaming on various platforms such as Crunchyroll, Netflix, Muse Asia, and many more! Enjoy watching it wherever you are!
