Daredevil: Reborn promises an exciting new chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it reintroduces Matt Murdock for another round of gritty justice on the streets. As the narrative delves deeper into his battles – be they legal or street-based – each episode is rich with intricate references, callbacks, and hidden details that dedicated fans will relish. Episode 3 is no different, skillfully incorporating elements from classic Daredevil storylines, previous Marvel productions, and even hinting at future developments.

In “The Hollow of His Hand,” I found myself immersed in a treasure trove of delightful references – from swift visual winks to sharp dialog choices – that seamlessly tie this episode into the rich tapestry of its comic book origins and the expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). From casual mentions of familiar names to discreet nods toward past series and episodes, there were some subtle Easter eggs scattered throughout, as well as a few major ones that could offer tantalizing hints about the direction of “Daredevil: Born Again” and potentially, the future of the MCU. Here are the standout Easter eggs from this episode that caught my eye.

A Hint At A Daredevil: Born Again Villain

As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’m eagerly anticipating Muse’s arrival in the new series, whether it’s just around the corner or a little further down the line. And let me tell you, the show has done an exceptional job of keeping that expectation alive, in true Muse style. Furthermore, they’ve subtly hinted that The Punisher is bound to make his appearance too, at some point.

In a more accessible language: Muse, known as a street artist, takes a disturbingly dark path by painting with human blood. His extraordinary abilities make him a tough adversary for Daredevil when they eventually clash. A swift glimpse of a Punisher mural subtly hints at Muse’s upcoming appearance in the storyline “Born Again.

A brief glimpse at a mural depicting The Punisher serves as an obvious wink, hinting at Muse’s forthcoming appearance in the storyline “Born Again”.

A Nod To The Incredible Hulk In Born Again

Pingo Doce Is A Classic MCU Thirst Quencher

In a swift, almost unnoticeable moment, an advertisement for the iconic Pingo Doce soda graced the side of a passing bus. This beverage has been gaining legendary status within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It first surfaced in The Incredible Hulk, when Bruce Banner’s blood contaminated a bottle. Interestingly, it was this same soda that a character portrayed by Stan Lee drank and fell ill due to a single drop of blood within the drink. This incident also led to the government uncovering Banner’s whereabouts and ultimately locating him.

The unique look of Pingo Doce catches the eye, and one reason for this is its connection to the film, which is among the latest additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in recent months. While Captain America: Brave New World isn’t an official sequel, it undeniably carries on the story. It’s clear that Marvel aims to keep this movie fresh in fans’ minds with this reference.

White Tiger’s Replacement Shown In Daredevil: Born Again

It Could Be Either Or Both Of His Family Members

During Hector Ayala’s trial, particularly when discussing his true identity as the White Tiger, he mentions cohabiting with his sister, niece, and wife. This scene is intended to highlight his goodness, but later becomes poignant upon his death. However, mentioning those specific individuals carries more significance than casual Disney+ viewers might appreciate.

In the comics, Hector Ayala’s niece, Angela Del Toro, is actually the second character to assume the role of the White Tiger. Interestingly, his sister later becomes the third White Tiger when Angela falls under the influence of The Hand and forfeits the amulet and mask. Although it seems improbable that we’ll witness all these transfers in the current season, if the series continues, there may be another character who takes up the amulet and mantle of the White Tiger.

Another Hint Towards Another Spider-Man In Daredevil: Born Again

An MCU Miles Morales Hint?

Previously in the series, Wilson Fisk subtly mentions Spider-Man in a manner that leaves little doubt he’s referring to Tom Holland’s version. However, it’s plausible that “The Hollow of His Hand” could also be referring to another iteration of Spider-Man in that specific episode.

At Hector’s trial, Matt Murdock mentions various officers expressing gratitude towards the White Tiger. Among them is Officer Morales, which appears to be a reference to Miles Morales, who hasn’t made his MCU debut yet but is expected to in the future. In the comics and Sony’s animated adaptations, Miles Morales’ father holds the position of a police officer.

Some may question the link due to Miles’ father being commonly recognized as Jefferson Davis, but it’s worth noting that in contemporary comic book narratives, he has switched his name to Jefferson Morales. It’s plausible that Marvel, in the Daredevil: Born Again series, is suggesting this alteration will hold true when Miles eventually appears.
