Summary

  • The EPs tease a possible twist in Heather’s storyline, hinting she might be working for Kingpin.
  • Kingpin’s obsession with destroying Matt could lead him to use Heather to manipulate the vigilante’s life.

In the upcoming series, Daredevil: Born Again, the executive producers hint at an intriguing potential twist in Matt Murdock’s romantic relationship.

In Netflix’s original series “Daredevil”, portrayed by Matt (Charlie Cox), the romantic landscape was intricate. Yet, among all, Karen Page (played by Deborah Ann Woll) and Electra Nachos (Elodie Yung) were his most notable love interests. As Daredevil: Born Again unfolded, Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva) emerged as a new romantic figure in Matt’s life. Her appearance might not be as straightforward as it seems, hinting at potential deeper implications.

Heather, a therapist, has recently started working with New York City Mayor Wilson Fisk and his wife Vanessa due to their marital troubles. The fact that Heather is connected to both Fisk and Matt Murdock, who have a long-standing enmity, has raised some questions. The Daredevil executive producers acknowledged this intrigue by asking, “Is it merely a coincidence…?” Sana Amanat expressed during an interview before the season began. “Is it?” added showrunner Dario Scardapane, hinting at a possible connection between Heather and Fisk. Scardapane further suggested, “Or is it another of Fisk’s strategies to get close to individuals in Matt’s life?” Scardapane continued by mentioning, “Perhaps she has a connection to Fisk. Perhaps it’s yet another Fiskian move to manipulate those around Matt.

Ohhh, you’re in for a treat. I wish I could see the look on your face in about four episodes.

In a past conversation with SFX Magazine, Cox shared his thoughts on Matt’s current relationship being “healthy”. As he put it, “I find myself in a fresh and thriving connection, and our differing perspectives on what it means to be a superhero or masked vigilante spark some deep discussions.” Unfortunately, some fans weren’t pleased due to their long-standing support for Matt and Karen. One fan lamented, “I hope he ends up with Karen,” while another drew comparisons between Heather and Karen, saying, “Could Heather be Karen 2.0? Ha!” Another fan added that Heather seemed like “Karen without the complicated history.”

In the series, Heather’s character might signify more than just a romantic interest for Matt, as hinted by the EPs’ statements. It appears that she could potentially be working for Wilson, also known as Kingpin, who has made it clear he wants to bring Matt down due to their ideological differences and longstanding feud. Matt and Wilson have been at odds since Wilson sees Matt as an obstacle to his power, both in his criminal activities and legal pursuits. With Matt being aware of Wilson’s knowledge of his dual identity, it wouldn’t be surprising if Kingpin attempted to undermine Matt by targeting him through Heather or disrupting his love life. Since absolute power in New York would elude Kingpin as long as Matt is present, he may resort to any means necessary to eliminate Matt from the picture.

It’s important to remember that this is merely speculation. Heather might truly love Matt and hold no affiliations with the Fisks. However, given Kingpin’s relentless pursuit of control and his desire to thwart Matt, there’s a possibility he could exploit Heather against the vigilante. After all, Kingpin has attempted to kill, frame, and reveal Matt’s identity as Daredevil. He’s also tried to damage those close to Matt, but direct confrontation didn’t work. So, using someone else as a pawn to influence Matt could be his new tactic for maintaining control. If this guess proves correct, it wouldn’t be entirely unexpected.
