Dark and Darker: How Does Gear Score Work

Dark and Darker: How Does Gear Score Work

As a seasoned adventurer with decades of trekking through the uncharted lands, I can confidently say that this gear system is not for the faint-hearted. The rarity of each piece of equipment, from Legendary to Unique, correlates well with the challenges one encounters on their journey.

In the world of Ironmace’s dungeon crawler game Dark and Darker, matchmaking plays a significant role. If you are new to the game and frequently getting paired with experienced players, it can be quite challenging and disheartening. This is when the Gear Score system becomes crucial. It determines which player gets matched with whom and adjusts the game’s difficulty level accordingly.

In this tutorial, we’ll walk you through understanding the Gear Score system, which ensures players face opponents whose gear levels closely match their own, within the game “Dark and Darker.

How Does Dark and Darker Gear Score Work

Dark and Darker: How Does Gear Score Work

In the game ‘Dark and Darker’, each piece of equipment you possess – be it weapons, armor, accessories or resources – features its own unique Gear Score. This score is determined by the item’s rarity. The individual scores are then combined to provide a total Gear Score, which is visible on player profiles for others to see.

In this game, players with similar total Gear Levels are paired together. This level is determined by the quality of gear you possess, and it influences the caliber of enemies you encounter in-game. Consequently, if your inventory contains Epic or Legendary equipment, your Gear Level will be higher compared to those who have Poor or Common items.

With that out of the way, let’s look at the matchmaking brackets in the 2023 dungeon crawler:

  • Low Gear Bracket
  • Moderate Gear Bracket.
  • High Gear Bracket.

Players with a Gear Level ranging from 0 to 24 fall into the category of Low Gear Bracket, encountering easy-level opponents as a starting point. As your Gear Level progresses between 25 and 124, you’ll move into the Moderate Gear Bracket, facing slightly stronger enemies. Lastly, those with a Gear Level exceeding 125 will be in the High Gear Bracket, battling against the most challenging Dark and Darker foes. It stands to reason that the Gear Levels of all the Dark and Darker items are higher than this.
