I was deeply saddened to hear of Tony Pankhurst’s passing at the age of 67 in May 2024. As a huge fan of The Dark Pictures Anthology, it’s hard not to feel a personal connection to this talented English actor who brought the enigmatic Curator character to life.
Actors from “The Dark Pictures Anthology” series, notably Tony Pankhurst, have left us at the age of 67. Known for his significant role in the anthology, Tony was often referred to as its familiar face within the English acting community.
Supermassive Games’ horror anthology series, “The Dark Pictures,” is connected not just by individual stories, but also by an overarching narrator named the Curator. This omnipresent figure introduces each tale and at times provides suggestions from a hidden location called The Repository. The Curator character was inspired by Pankhurst.
Dark Picture’s Tony Pankhurst Passed Away in May 2024
On July 29, the developer of The Dark Pictures Anthology mourned the loss of Tony Pankhurst, expressing sadness on behalf of everyone at the company. According to an online tribute created by his family via MuchLoved, Pankhurst passed away at the age of 67 on May 9, 2024. His funeral took place on June 7. In honor of Pankhurst’s strong affinity for Brighton Hove Albion FC, his loved ones asked mourners to wear the team’s blue and white colors instead of conventional black attire at the service.
In addition to portraying the Curator in the game “The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes,” Pankhurst previously played this role in its launch trailer. Before joining Supermassive’s horror anthology series, the British actor gained experience with minor parts in films like “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” “Babylon,” and “The Theory of Everything,” as well as “Star Wars: Episode 7 – The Force Awakens.” He also spent time as a radio host and ran his own business, which he eventually sold before committing to an acting career in his mid-50s.
Pankhurst’s influence is anticipated to continue in both current and upcoming installments of The Dark Pictures Anthology. He may be depicted through his likeness for the Curator character, but it is English actor Pip Torrens who brings the role to life with his voice and motion-capture skills. Notably, Pankhurst’s involvement was acknowledged by Supermassive Games in a heartfelt message on MuchLoved, acknowledging him as instrumental in creating “a beloved character.”
In the second season of “The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020”, the role of The Curator is anticipated. Production for this season started in 2022. A sneak peek at the upcoming season was hinted at in a post-credits trailer from the fourth and last installment of Season 1, titled “The Devil in Me”. As of July 24, there’s yet no specific release date or even a release window for this upcoming horror game.
