Darksiders 4’s Biggest Feature is 15 Years in the Making

At last, it’s official! Darksiders 4 is on its way, and for the first time ever, we’ll be able to team up as the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. It’s been a decade and a half since the original Darksiders dropped in 2010, with each subsequent game focusing on a single Nephilim Rider as they battled Hell’s and Heaven’s forces to prevent the Endwar. Now, after all that waiting, Darksiders 4 promises to let us play as all of the Horsemen simultaneously – whether we’re going solo or teaming up in co-op mode!

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that, as per the official Steam page, my beloved game Darksiders 4 is set to pick up right where the original Darksiders left off. This means we’ll be diving back into an authentic sequel following War’s predicament after being falsely accused and locked away for prematurely igniting the Endwar. The leader of the Hellguard, Uriel, called upon Death, Fury, and Strife to help War in his battle against Lilith and the Charred Council, all with the aim of saving humanity. With the Four Horsemen now playable, this opens up some intriguing possibilities for the storyline and gameplay in Darksiders 4.

Darksiders 4’s Four Horsemen Brings a Variety of Personalities and Fighting Styles

  • War (Darksiders and Darksiders Genesis)
  • Death (Darksiders 2)
  • Fury (Darksiders 3)
  • Strife (Darksiders Genesis)

In Darksiders 4, players get to select and control one of the legendary Horsemen, each with unique fighting techniques and powers. The game hasn’t revealed yet if picking one Horseman over another impacts the storyline or if the other three characters will join as non-player characters in a party system. Additionally, the game offers exciting combat options when playing cooperatively. Given the trend of open-world co-op games, Darksiders 4 could offer a unique and enjoyable experience for both old and new fans.

To clarify, the four characters in Darksiders stand out from one another due to distinct combat styles and abilities. War is reminiscent of a brawler or barbarian, with his robust physique and reliance on a massive two-handed weapon known as Chaoseater. Death, often seen as the most powerful among the siblings, exhibits agility in battle and wields a scythe as his signature weapon. Fury, labeled as the group’s mage, employs a significant amount of magic in her whip attacks and other close-combat techniques. Lastly, Strife is characterized by his long-range capabilities, armed with twin revolvers named Mercy and Redemption. Each character also possesses secondary weapons to enhance their overall fighting prowess and solve map puzzles when needed.

Horseman Signature Weapon
War Chaoseater (two-handed blade)
Death Scythe
Fury Blade Whip
Strife Mercy and Redemption (revolvers)

If Darksiders 4 were to incorporate a party system in its single-player mode, it would imply that all the Horsemen are present even when only one is being controlled. This underscores how Darksiders 4 will focus on the Four Horsemen as a collective unit, rather than the individual focus of previous games. In this way, it seems logical to fully utilize all characters within the narrative instead of dividing the story into distinct segments for each character. Additionally, this mechanic could streamline navigation through the game’s expansive open-world map. Similar to some Darksiders games, there may be Metroidvania-style puzzles that require solving to gain access to hidden areas, apart from enemy encounters and boss battles.

If Darksiders 4 offers distinct experiences based on the character chosen by fans in their single-player campaign, it could make the game more appealing for multiple playthroughs as they explore each Horseman’s perspective. This method mirrors how Scarlet Nexus told its story, offering players a choice between two protagonists to witness the progression of their missions and the eventual convergence of their paths. Although this approach may offer additional content for fans, it could potentially undermine the emphasis on the Horsemen working together to defeat Lilith and the Charred Council.

Darksiders 4″ hasn’t been given a release date as of now, but if it lives up to its promise of thrilling gameplay with the Four Horsemen, particularly its multiplayer mode, then the 15-year wait will undoubtedly be worth it. One thing that the series has consistently excelled at is providing each Horseman with their own narrative space, a tradition we hope continues in the fourth installment’s storyline for an even more engaging experience.
